    • Heads to bench versus lefty
Frazier isn't in the Royals' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Angels.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Frazier will take a seat as Reid Detmers prepares to start on the hill Thursday for the Halos. His absence will allow Nelson Velazquez to serve as the Royals' DH while batting fifth. Rotowire.com 1 minute ago

    • Sits down against southpaw
Isbel isn't in the Royals' lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Isbel will step out of the lineup as the Angels prepare to send left-hander Reid Detmers to the mound to start Thursday's contest. Garrett Hampson will fill in as Kansas City's center fielder and bat ninth. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago
    • Idle versus lefty
Melendez isn't in the Royals' lineup Thursday against the Angels.

Advice: Lefty Reid Detmers will start on the mound for Los Angeles, sending the left-handed bat of Melendez into Kansas City's dugout for the beginning of the game. Dairon Blanco will instead serve as the Royals' left fielder and bat eighth. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

    • Recalled from Triple-A
The Pirates recalled Gonzales from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Gonzales has spent all season in Triple-A, slashing .358/.431/.608 with four homers and 19 RBI across 137 plate appearances. The 24-year-old infielder will give the Pirates another player capable of fielding multiple positions, and he could dethrone the struggling Jared Triolo as Pittsburgh's primary second baseman. • Charlie Blackmon doubles and triples in blowout
Charlie Blackmon doubled and tripled while driving in a pair of runs in a 9-1 rout of the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Blackmon also singled, and that base knock drove in a run in the fourth inning. The former fantasy star has been just so-so — at best — in 2024 with a slash of .241/.299/.370, but this does make back-to-back multi-hit games for Blackmon. There’s just not enough offensive consistency at this stage in his career to trust him as a regular option. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

    • Brenton Doyle swats three-run homer in rout
Brenton Doyle hit a three-run homer in a blowout win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Doyle blasted a homer off Keaton Winn with a pair of runners on to extend the Colorado lead to 6-1. The 25-year-old has shown vastly improved pop in the early portion of 2024, as he’s up to four homers and a .455 slugging percentage. It’s probably not sustainable — and the numbers have already dropped after a red-hot April — but it’s nice to see offensive progress from a player who was not an effective hitter whatsoever in 2024, even while playing in some of the friendliest confines for half of his games. • Conforto hits solo homer in loss to Rockies
Michael Conforto homered while going 2-for-3 in a blowout loss to the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Conforto also drew a walk, so a nice day for him on a day where the rest of the Giants were not very good. The 31-year-old connected on a solo homer off Cal Quantrill and now has seven homers and 20 RBI in the first month-plus of the 2024 campaign. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago
    • Cal Quantrill pitches well again in win over SF
Cal Quantrill held the Giants to just one run Thursday over six innings while picking up a win for the Rockies.

Advice: Quantrill scattered five hits with three walks, and he struck out five. As seen from the numbers above there was some traffic, but Quantrill was able to make enough key pitches to limit the damage while picking up another victory. That makes back-to-back effective starts for the 29-year-old, as he has given up just one run over his last 13 2/3 innings to lower his ERA to 3.94. The Rockies are going nowhere, but Quantrill will be an intriguing trade target if he keeps this up. His next chance comes Tuesday against the Padres. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

    • Keaton Winn can’t get out of fourth in loss
Keaton Winn gave up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings Thursday while picking up a loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Oof. Winn was fine over the first three innings. He was anything but in the fourth. The Rockies ended up picking up seven off the right-hander, and while he threw 39-of-51 pitches for strikes, he also only picked up one strikeout and didn’t fool the Colorado hitters — particularly in that fourth inning. That’s back-to-back clunkers for Winn, and his ERA has ballooned to 5.63 in the process. It’s really not a good idea to use him next week in a scheduled start against the Dodgers.
