• Heating up
Candelario went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Friday's 6-5 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Candelario belted a two-run home run in the fifth inning to help the Reds overcome a sloppy day in the field (five errors) and on the mound (eight walks). The home run was his third in the last two games and sixth during the month of June. After an inconsistent first two months, Candelario's bat is heating up this month. He's batting .346 (18-for-52) with nine extra-base hits, 13 RBI, two steals and eight runs over 12 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 6:33 am
  • Experiencing general tightness
Smith was not in the starting lineup Friday due to what manager Bruce Bochy referred to as "general tightness," Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's the same condition that led to Smith being held out of Tuesday's starting lineup. He eventually entered Friday's game as a pinch hitter, popping out in the ninth inning. With Corey Seager not playing the field yet as he battles a hamstring, Ezequiel Duran started at shortstop. Rotowire.com Today, 6:04 am

  • Swats homer Friday
Suarez went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run in Friday's 7-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Suarez led off the fourth inning with his sixth home run of the season. His struggles at the plate have put his job at the Diamondbacks' primary third baseman in jeopardy, but Suarez has started two of the three games since manager Torey Lovullo indicated Blaze Alexander would see more time at third base. • Joey Ortiz walks three times Friday in return
Joey Ortiz (hamstring) went 0-for-2 with an RBI and also walked three times on Friday in his return to the lineup.

Advice: Ortiz was back at third base and batting seventh on Friday night agains the Reds following a two-game absence due to right hamstring soreness. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern moving forward for the 25-year-old infielder, who is in the midst of a true breakout season in his Brewers debut. Rotoworld Today, 4:11 am

  • Brett Baty raises average to .519 at Triple-A
Brett Baty went 3-for-3 with an RBI on Friday for Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Baty has torn the cover off the ball since a late-May demotion to the minors, batting an absurd .519 (14-for-27) with three homers and 10 RBI in six games for Triple-A Syracuse. The 24-year-old former top prospect seems to be re-gaining some much-needed confidence at the dish and appears to be also adding some defensive versatility to his toolkit by spending some time at second base recently. It’s unclear when Baty will get another shot in New York, but he’s showed some encouraging signs over the last few weeks away from the spotlight in the upper minors. Rotoworld Today, 3:37 am

  • Jeimer Candelario homers in win over Brewers
Jeimer Candelario delivered a two-run homer and a double Friday as the Reds edged the Brewers 6-5.

Advice: Not a bad followup to his two-homer game Wednesday. Candelario has 12 homers, eight of which have come in his last 19 games. Those who weighed dropping him a few weeks ago have been rewarded for their patience. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:25 pm
  • Hits first homer of season
Taylor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-3 win over the Royals.

Advice: This was Taylor's first homer and second extra-base hit over 106 plate appearances this season. The veteran utility man has a pitiful .108/.200/.151 slash line with nine RBI, six runs scored and one stolen base over 39 contests. Taylor is usually able to carve out a steady role as a short-side platoon option at a variety of positions, but his poor hitting and the Dodgers' good health has prevented the 33-year-old from seeing anything close to regular playing time. • Homers in comeback win
Rojas went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 4-3 win over the Royals.

Advice: Rojas sparked a Dodgers comeback with his fifth-inning homer off Cole Ragans. The long ball was Rojas' first since April 3. The infielder has three multi-hit efforts over his last eight games, but he's also gone hitless three times in that span. For the season, he's at a .280/.330/.449 slash line with three homers, 14 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases over 115 plate appearances. Rojas appears to be out of the mix for time at third base following the Dodgers' trade for Cavan Biggio. It's likely Rojas will settle into a short-side platoon role at second base going forward, sharing the position with Gavin Lux. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:52 pm

  • Eugenio Suárez homers in blowout win
Eugenio Suárez hit a solo homer in a blowout win over the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Suárez swatted a solo shot in the fourth inning off Chris Flexen — his former teammate in Seattle — to give D-Backs a 4-1 lead. It’s been a struggle for the 32-year-old third baseman, as even with the roundtripper he’s hitting only .197/.274/.324. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:23 pm
