• Garrett Whitlock dealing with soreness in elbow
Garrett Whitlock will undergo additional testing on Monday after experiencing soreness in his right elbow.

Advice: Ugh. The 27-year-old hurler had looked sharp in his latest minor league rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, striking out five batters over 4 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. The plan was to have him rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation next week, but that’s obviously on hold for now. The Red Sox should provide an update on his status after Monday’s testing is complete, but it doesn’t sound great. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

  • Faces hitters
Bachman (shoulder) threw live batting practice Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bachman began throwing off a mound May 7, and Friday marks another major step in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. The 24-year-old righty will almost certainly require a lengthy rehab assignment before the Angels think about adding him to their rotation, though the team has not yet specified when his assignment will start. • Receives injection in back
Adrianza received an injection in his back Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The injection was issued to relieve back spasms that caused Adrianza to land on the 10-day injured list May 9. Before being placed on the IL, Adrianza was 5-for-26 with one home run and two RBI in eight games. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

  • Astros option Shawn Dubin to Triple-A on Friday
Astros optioned RHP Shawn Dubin to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: The 28-year-old hurler took one for the team on Thursday night, saving a depleted bullpen by working the final three innings against the Athletics and recording his first career save. That means he wasn’t going to be available for a few days though, which means he gets sent out so the Astros can bring in a fresh arm. Dubin holds a 6.59 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and a 13/7 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings with the Astros on the season. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Austin Riley held out of lineup again on Friday
Austin Riley (side) was held out of the Braves’ starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game on Friday night.

Advice: It’s still encouraging that there has been no chatter about a possible trip to the injured list, which would seemingly mean that Riley is making progress and should return to the lineup any day now. Zack Short will once again start in his place at the hot corner and will bat ninth against Matt Waldron and the Padres. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

  • Joc Pederson scratched from D’Backs’ lineup Friday
Joc Pederson was scratched from the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Friday night’s series opener against the Tigers.

Advice: No word has been given yet for the late switch, but it’s possible that the Diamondbacks simply thought better of putting him out there against tough left-hander Tarik Skubal. Jake McCarthy will start in his place in right field while Randal Grichuk will function as the team’s designated hitter. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

  • Justin Turner returns to Jays’ lineup on Friday
Justin Turner returned to the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Rays.

Advice: After missing the previous three games due to illness, Turner will jump right back in as the Jays’ designated hitter and will bat cleanup against Tyler Alexander and the Rays on Friday evening. On the season, the 39-year-old is hitting .246/.317/.405 with four homers and 16 RBI in 37 games. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago

  • Scratched Friday
Pederson was scratched from Arizona's lineup ahead of Friday's game versus the Tigers.

Advice: It's unclear why Pederson was taken out of the lineup, but the D-backs should offer more information in the near future. In the meantime, Randal Grichuk will serve as Arizona's DH while Jake McCarthy fills the opening in right field, batting seventh. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

  • Jorge Polanco (hamstring) could need IL stint
Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains out of the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

Advice: There had been an expectation that the 30-year-old second baseman would be ready to return on Friday night after three straight days off, but alas it was not to be. The Mariners are now saying that he may miss the entire series against the Orioles and could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. Stay tuned. Josh Rojas will slide over and cover second base in his absence on Friday while Luis Urias starts at the hot corner. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago
