    • Yimi García starting rehab assignment on Saturday
Yimi García (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: García got through a bullpen session on Wednesday without any issues and will get in a handful of rehab outings before turning to Toronto’s closing mix. The 33-year-old, who has been out since mid-June with an elbow injury, figures to split the closing duties with fellow veteran Chad Green once he’s back, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him completely take over the role. • Thomson: Schwaber could return on Tuesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said “it’s possible” that Kyle Schwarber (groin) could return on Tuesday when the Phillies begin their series against the Dodgers.

Advice: Schwarber is already running at 90% on the field and has not yet been on the IL for a week, so he likely wouldn’t need any rehab assignment if he progresses quickly. There are a few days to go, but it sounds like we might get a minimum stay for Schwarber on the IL. Rotoworld Today, 12:23 pm

    • Marcus Semien getting a day off on Thursday
Marcus Semien is not in the Rangers’ lineup on Thursday.

Advice: It’s a rare off day for Semien, who has played all 162 games in three of the last four non-COVID seasons and played 161 games in the other year. However, the day off might be needed as Semien has been struggling at the dish of late. Jonathan Ornelas still start at second and bat ninth. Rotoworld Today, 11:00 am

    • Beginning rehab assignment
Garcia (elbow) feels good following Wednesday's bullpen session and will begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Buffalo, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The right-hander will need at least a couple appearances in the minors before being cleared to rejoin the Blue Jays. Chad Green is currently operating as Toronto's closer with Jordan Romano (elbow) out indefinitely after elbow surgery, but Garcia could be the favorite for saves once reinstated. • Working out at 90 percent intensity
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Schwarber (groin) is going through drills at 90 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Meanwhile, Thomson pegged Bryce Harper (hamstring) and J.T. Realmuto (knee) at 70-to-75 percent as they go through drills. While it's possible all three players make it back prior to the All-Star break, Schwarber would appear to have the best shot to do so. He's coming back from a left groin strain. • Rare day off amidst slump
Semien is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.

Advice: It's just the second day off of the season for Semien, who has managed just two hits over his last 36 at-bats. Jonathan Ornelas will handle second base for the Rangers on Thursday while Semien receives some much-needed rest. Rotowire.com Today, 8:53 am

    • Launches homer in loss
Paredes went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Royals.

Advice: Paredes took Michael Wacha deep in the opening frame for an early 1-0 lead. He and Amed Rosario were the only Rays to get on base multiple times in the game after Paredes drew multiple walks for the first time since May 17. He's now racked up five extra-base hits, reached base a total of eight times and driven in four runs over his last three games. Paredes is enjoying another productive campaign after breaking out last year, slashing .276/.365/.481 with 14 homers, 46 RBI, 33 runs and a 35:57 BB:K in 342 plate appearances. • Day off Thursday
Ruiz is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Ruiz caught the first three games of the series, so he's due for a day off during Thursday's afternoon tilt. Riley Adams will do the catching for Jake Irvin. Rotowire.com Today, 6:16 am

    • Isaac Paredes clobbers first inning homer
Isaac Paredes went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks on Wednesday against the Royals.

Advice: Paredes started this game by smashing a changeup from Michael Wacha beyond the left field fence. Shockingly he pulled yet another home run right next to the left field foul pole. The long ball was a welcome sight as these past few weeks have felt like his longest cold streak since breaking out with the Rays two years ago. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:14 pm
