    • Jesús Luzardo takes loss following quality start
      Jesús Luzardo lost Tuesday after allowing three runs in six innings against the Padres.

      Advice: Even a third straight scoreless outing wouldn’t have gotten Luzardo a win tonight, as the Marlins were shut out by the Padres. At this point, Luzardo is just playing out the string until an inevitable midseason trade. He’ll take a 2-4 record and a 4.18 ERA into his next start versus the Rays.     • Limits damage in loss
      Ragans (4-4) took the loss Tuesday against Minnesota, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Ragans stranded a runner in all five of his innings pitched and had a difficult time getting through a Twins lineup that featured seven righties and a pair of switch hitters. The southpaw relied heavily on his ability to miss bats, inducing 14 whiffs and generating seven or more strikeouts for the fifth time in his last six starts.     • Cole Ragans allows three earned runs in loss
      Cole Ragans allowed nine hits and three earned runs over five innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Twins.

      Advice: Ragans ran into trouble in the first inning when he allowed back-to-back hits to his first two batters faced, only to see both players score on a Jose Miranda single a few batters later. Ragans would allow another run in the fourth on a Manuel Margot double, as the left was hit around for much of the evening. His nine hits allowed tied for the second-most he’s allowed on the season, as Ragans has struggled at times to limit base runners despite a solid 3.49 ERA.     • Mason Miller shuts door on Rays for 11th save
      Mason Miller earned a save by preserving a 3-0 win over the Rays on Tuesday.

      Advice: Miller, who hadn’t pitched in two days, didn’t make it easy on himself. After getting the first two batters out, he allowed a single to Yandy Diaz and walked Brandon Lowe to bring the tying run to the plate before striking out Isaac Paredes to end the game. It was his 11th save of the year to go along with a 1.88 ERA. He has emerged as one of the most dominant relievers in baseball and with the A’s proving to be more competitive than many expected, Miller should easily eclipse the 20-save mark this year if he can stay healthy.     • Fans seven in no-decision
      Snell allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over four innings in a no-decision against Philadelphia on Monday.

      Advice: Snell went on the paternity list Thursday while awaiting the birth of his child, but he ended up taking his normal turn in the rotation. The left-hander set a season high with seven punchouts but again failed to complete five innings -- through five starts this season, he's topped out at 4.2 frames. Snell also has yet to allow fewer than three earned runs in an outing, and his ERA for the campaign sits at an unsightly 10.42. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:23 pm

      Blake Snell allowed four runs (three earned) in four innings and got a no-decision in the Giants’ 8-4 victory over the Phillies on Monday.



      Advice: Snell allowed five hits, two walks and struck out seven. It’s been a difficult start to the year for the two-time Cy Young award winner. Snell is yet to complete five innings in any of his five starts and has a 10.42 ERA. The seven strikeouts were a season-high at least. The 31-year-old left-hander is set to face the Yankees at home this weekend.

    • Suffers second defeat
      Yamamoto (5-2) suffered the loss Sunday against the Reds, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Yamamoto was done in by a lack of run support combined with a tough-luck four-run third inning. Yamamoto recorded two outs in the third but an infield single by Jake Fraley extended the inning while loading the bases and was followed by consecutive two-run singles by Jonathan India and Nick Martini. The outing marked Yamamoto's first defeat since the first game of the season and came on the heels of an impressive five-game stretch where Yamamoto went 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 31 strikeouts across 32 innings.       Advice: According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Snell is still awaiting the birth of his baby, despite stepping away from the team for the last three days in anticipation of welcoming a new addition to his family. The left-hander was placed on the paternity list a day after he made his most recent start Wednesday against the Pirates, but he won't end up missing a turn now that he's back on the active roster.
