    • Michal Kopech takes loss against Guardians
Michael Kopech allowed one run on one hit in 1/3 of an inning in a loss to the Guardians on Tuesday.

Advice: Kopech entered the ninth in a tie game and allowed a lead-off single to Andres Gimenez. Gimenez would later move over on a groundout and then a wild pitch allowed him to advance to third where he was driven in by a sac fly off the bat of Bo Naylor. Kopech had allowed just one run in his last six innings and wasn’t particularly bad here, but the wild pitch highlights some of the inconsistency that he brings at the end of games. • Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) set for Wednesday bullpen
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: Kershaw was shut down from throwing back in late June after experiencing soreness in his surgically-repaired left shoulder, so it’s a positive sign that he’s been cleared to resume throwing again. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw is targeting a midseason return to Los Angeles’s starting rotation and appears on track to make it back at some point in August. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:16 pm

    • Starting Wednesday
Kremer (triceps) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against Seattle, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: Kremer will make his return to the major-league rotation after missing six weeks of action with a right triceps strain. The right-hander has struggled to a 11.42 ERA with nine strikeouts while surrendering four home runs over 8.2 innings in three rehab outings with Triple-A Norfolk. As a result of Kremer's addition to the rotation, Corbin Burnes will be pushed back to make his next start in Thursday's series finale against the Mariners. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:52 pm

    • Could move up to big leagues
Triple-A Durham scratched Baz from his scheduled start Tuesday, perhaps signaling that the Rays will call him up in the coming days, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Baz was removed from his outing in order to be available as a depth option for the Rays in case the team needs to play a doubleheader Wednesday or Thursday against the Royals, as inclement weather is expected in Kansas City. Baz's health is not a concern, as he carries a 4.12 ERA and a 10.1 K/9 over 39.1 innings in 10 starts with Durham this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:27 pm

    • Rays scratch Shane Baz in case of Wednesday DH
Shane Baz was scratched from Tuesday’s start for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz was scratched to keep him available in case the Rays need to call up a starter for a potential Wednesday doubleheader against the Royals. With rain in the forecast in Kansas City on Tuesday night, Tampa Bay didn’t want to take any chances and not have Baz available, if needed. There’s still a bunch of hurdles to clear, but it’s possible the 25-year-old top pitching prospect could make his long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery later this week. • Returns to throwing
Kershaw (shoulder) has started throwing again Tuesday after experiencing shoulder soreness last week, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: After being shut down for one week due to feeling soreness in his surgically repaired shoulder, Kershaw said he was relieved an MRI didn't reveal any new damage. The southpaw added that he received some shots to help alleviate discomfort and that he is hopeful the pause in his rehab will not push his return timeline back too much. • Casey Mize heading to IL with hamstring strain
Casey Mize (hamstring) will require a trip to the injured list.

Advice: Mize will officially land on the injured list at some point this week due to a left hamstring strain. No word yet on the severity of the issue, but the 27-year-old righty figures to be shelved until after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:04 pm

    • Starting Wednesday
Montero will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start Wednesday in Minnesota, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Montero will be filling in for Jack Flaherty (back), who is having his turn skipped. The Tigers will also need an additional starter for later this week with Casey Mize (hamstring) headed to the 15-day injured list. Montero has permitted nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings for the Tigers in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:51 pm
