    • Tanner Houck dominates in victory over Tigers
Tanner Houck delivered a dominant performance in Friday night’s victory over the Tigers, allowing just one run on three hits over seven stellar innings.

Advice: The 27-year-old hurler racked up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single by Gio Urshela in the opening inning. After that, the Tigers never really threatened against him. Houck got 10 swings and misses on 95 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 32 percent. Now 5-5 on the season, he’ll carry an impressive 1.85 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 75/15 K/BB ratio (78 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the White Sox in Chicago. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:42 pm

    • Miles Mikolas logs quality start in loss on Friday
Miles Mikolas posted a quality start in Friday’s loss to the Phillies, surrendering three runs on five hits across his six frames.

Advice: Mikolas struck out five batters on the night while issuing only one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came during a three-run uprising in the second inning as Brandon Marsh plated a run with a ground ball and Edmundo Sosa crushed a two-run homer. He finished his day with four scoreless innings though to keep the Cardinals in the game. The 35-year-old hurler got eight whiffs on 96 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll carry a disappointing 5.54 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 50/14 K/BB ratio (65 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Astros in Houston. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:58 pm

    • Luis Garcia throws inning in simulated game
Luis Garcia (elbow) threw 20 pitches over one inning in a simulated game on Friday without any issues.

Advice: Garcia faced Grae Kessinger during his simulated frame. The 27-year-old right-hander continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery and is on track to be an option for the Astros’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:57 pm

    • Tosses simulated inning
Garcia (elbow) threw 20 pitches in a simulated inning Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Garcia faced live batters during the outing and didn't appear to suffer any discomfort or setbacks Friday while he rehabs from Tommy John surgery. The 26-year-old has been throwing small bullpen sessions for over a month and will need a rehab assignment prior to being cleared. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:55 pm

    • Could be activated soon
Winn (forearm) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Monday, and Giants manager Bob Melvin said that the right-hander could be available to start when his next turn in the rotation comes up, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The bullpen session was the second that Winn has thrown since he was diagnosed with a mild right forearm strain following his May 14 start against the Dodgers, before he was placed on the 15-day injured list three days later. The Giants haven't officially decided whether or not Winn will require a rehab assignment prior to being activated, and the club may wait and see how he's feeling over the weekend before making that call. If Winn is cleared to immediately rejoin the rotation, he would likely take the ball Monday or Tuesday in Arizona. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:37 am

    • Fans nine batters in defeat
Pivetta (2-4) took the loss against Detroit on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings.

Advice: Pivetta's nine punchouts were his most since his season debut March 29, and the outing was a nice bounce-back from his five-run, 3.1-inning start his previous time on the mound. However, Boston's offense couldn't generate any runs, saddling the right-hander with his fourth loss. Pivetta has had a couple poor starts this season, but he's allowed two or fewer earned runs in five of his seven appearances. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:49 pm

    • Nick Pivetta strikes out nine, still takes loss
Nick Pivetta struck out nine while allowing just two runs over 5 2/3 innings, but still was charged with a loss Thursday against the Tigers.

Advice: Pivetta gave up only three hits while walking two. He allowed a solo homer to Akil Baddoo, and another run crossed on an RBI single from Mark Canha. The right-hander has struck out at least eight batters in three of his last four chances, and he’s given up no more than two runs in those outings. Pivetta can drive fantasy managers mad with the occasional clunker, but the strikeouts are usually there. He’ll take a 4.08 ERA into his next scheduled outing against Atlanta on Wednesday. • Shaky vs. Royals
Paddack did not factor into the decision Thursday against Kansas City, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Paddack got off to a rocky start, allowing a two-run homer to Vinnie Pasquantino in the first inning before allowing two more runs in the third and fourth. However, the Twins would rally back from a 4-0 hole to spare him the loss in an eventual 7-6 victory. Paddack had been sharp coming into Thursday's outing, allowing just four runs over 13 innings across his previous two starts. Overall, he's 4-2 on the season with a 4.57 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 54:12 K:BB across 61 innings. Paddack's currently in line for a tough road matchup with the Yankees in his next start. • Paddack allows four in no-decision Thursday
Chris Paddack allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Twins 7-6 victory over the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Paddack allowed five hits, walked two and struck out four. Two of the hits were home runs. He’s now allowed 11 home runs in 11 starts this season. Paddack allowed two runs or less in four of his six starts in May. His ERA is now 4.57 on the year. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Yankees on the road next week.
