    • Luis Garcia throws inning in simulated game
Luis Garcia (elbow) threw 20 pitches over one inning in a simulated game on Friday without any issues.

Advice: Garcia faced Grae Kessinger during his simulated frame. The 27-year-old right-hander continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery and is on track to be an option for the Astros’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 1:57 pm

    • Tosses simulated inning
Garcia (elbow) threw 20 pitches in a simulated inning Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Garcia faced live batters during the outing and didn't appear to suffer any discomfort or setbacks Friday while he rehabs from Tommy John surgery. The 26-year-old has been throwing small bullpen sessions for over a month and will need a rehab assignment prior to being cleared. Rotowire.com Today, 1:55 pm

    • Jeremy Peña getting a night off on Friday
Jeremy Peña is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Twins.

Advice: It’s nothing more than a routine night off for the 26-year-old shortstop. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place and will bat seventh for the Astros against Pablo Lopez and the Twins on Friday evening in Houston. Rotoworld Today, 1:14 pm

Pena is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Minnesota, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Pena had started each of Houston's 57 games this season but will receive his first day off Friday amid a 1-for-16 slump. Mauricio Dubon will play shortstop and bat seventh Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 1:14 pm

    • Back in action Friday
Alonso (hand) is playing first and batting second during Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Alonso was hit by a pitch Wednesday, but after a clean CT scan and a day off Thursday, the first baseman will rejoin the Mets' starting nine. Alonso owns a .771 OPS and has the third most homers among first basemen this season with 12. Rotowire.com Today, 12:05 pm

    • Back from IL, leading off Friday
Kwan (hamstring) was reinstated from the injured list and is starting in left field and batting leadoff Friday against the Nationals, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 26-year-old has been sidelined nearly four weeks by a strained left hamstring, but he's back with the Guardians after a four-game rehab stint in the minors. Kwan was producing as one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball prior to the injury with three homers, three steals and a .353/.407/.496 slash line in 32 games. Rotowire.com Today, 11:42 am

    • Guardians activated OF Steven Kwan
Guardians activated OF Steven Kwan from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Kwan had been on the injured list since May 6th with a hamstring injury. He was hitting .353 with three home runs in 32 games before the injury. Rotoworld Today, 11:35 am

    • Could be activated soon
Winn (forearm) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Monday, and manager Bob Melvin said that the right-hander is "getting close" to a return from the 15-day injured list and could be available to start when his next turn in the rotation comes up, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The bullpen session was the second that Winn has thrown since he was diagnosed with a mild right forearm strain following his May 14 start against the Dodgers before he was placed on the 15-day injured list three days later. The Giants haven't officially decided whether or not Winn will require a rehab assignment prior to being activated, and the club may wait and see how the right-hander is feeling over the weekend before making a call on his next step. If Winn is cleared to make his next turn through the rotation, he would likely take the ball Monday or Tuesday in Arizona. Rotowire.com Today, 8:37 am

    • On verge of return
Kwan (hamstring) went 1-for-2 with an RBI, two walks, three runs scored and a stolen base in a rehab game with Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Advice: After two games with High-A Lake County, Kwan moved his rehab to Columbus earlier this week. He was on base three times Thursday in his second game with the team's top minor-league affiliate and added a steal for good measure, showing good confidence in his hamstring. The 26-year-old appears poised to return to the major-league lineup in the near future, possibly as soon as Friday against Washington, and will look to pick up where he left off before going down (.353/.407/.496).
