    • Out 4-to-6 weeks
Reds manager David Bell said that Encarnacion-Strand, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after tests revealed a new fracture in his right wrist, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Initial imaging after Encarnacion-Strand was hit on the hand by a pitch late last month came back clean, but subsequent tests revealed a right ulnar styloid fracture. The 24-year-old has hit a disappointing .190/.220/.293 with two home runs in 29 games for the Reds this season. Cincinnati will turn to Jeimer Candelario to replace Encarnacion-Strand at first base in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, while Santiago Espinal enters the lineup at first base. The Reds signed Mike Ford to a one-year contract Wednesday and could also turn to him for starts at first base while Encarnacion-Strand is on the shelf. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:10 pm
    • Reds place Christian Encarnacion-Strand on IL
Reds placed Christian Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list with a right ulnar styloid fracture.

Advice: CES took a pitch off his wrist a couple weeks ago and the initial X-Rays came back negative, but now the team is saying there is a fracture which will sideline him forthe next six to eight weeks. Santiago Espinal is likely to take over duties at the hot corner full time until the 24-year-old can return to the Cincinnati’s lineup. Rotoworld Wednesday, 11:54 am
    • Placed on IL with fractured wrist
The Reds placed Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a right ulnar styloid fracture.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand was hit on the hand by a pitch late last month and missed four games with lingering soreness. While initial imaging didn't reveal a new injury, it did show that the infielder has an old fracture that could be contributing to the discomfort. Ultimately, the Reds have opted to give him some extra down time, although it's not clear how long Encarnacion-Strand might be out. Cincinnati signed Mike Ford to the 26-man active roster to provide extra depth at first base/designated hitter while Encarnacion-Strand is out, and Cincinnati could also shift Jeimer Candelario over to first base and use Santiago Espinal at third base. • Deliver walk-off homer Tuesday
Busch went 2-for-4 with a walk-off solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Padres.

Advice: Busch's seventh home run of the season was his biggest to date, as he took Enyel De Los Santos deep in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Cubs to victory. The slugging first baseman has been solid with an .816 OPS across 35 games, and his seven long balls are second on the team. Busch will likely continue to sit against lefty starters, but he's an impact bat against righties. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:55 pm

    • Michael Busch hits walk-off homer vs. Padres
Michael Busch went 2-for-4 with a walk-off homer in Tuesday’s win over the Padres.

Advice: The Cubs held a 1-0 lead throughout most of this one, but a two-run homer by Jurickson Profar in the eighth gave the Padres the 2-1 advantage and put Shota Imanaga on the hook for his first loss of the season. Fortunately for Imanaga, a sacrifice fly by Christopher Morel in the bottom of the eighth inning put the Cubs in position to win it in the final frame. Busch made short work of the opportunity, hitting a leadoff homer to right off the first pitch of the inning from Enyel De Los Santos to give the Cubs the 3-2 win. It was Busch’s seventh homer of the season, as the first baseman continues to shine in his first full year of big league play. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:34 pm

    • Returns to action
      Encarnacion-Strand went 0-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss to Baltimore.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand missed the last four games with a hand injury. His first full season in the majors has gotten off to a rocky start, as the first baseman is slashing .190/.216/.305 over 111 plate appearances. His strikeout rate is nearly identical to what it was in 2023, but the walk rate is about half of what it was last year and Encarnacion-Strand is in the fifth percentile in chase percentage. • Back in action Friday
Encarnacion-Strand (hand) will start at first base and bat fifth in Friday's game versus the Orioles.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand missed four starts due to lingering left hand soreness following a hit-by-pitch over the weekend, but he's ready to go now. The 24-year-old has slashed a disappointing .196/.222/.314 with a 28.7 percent strikeout rate in 25 contests with the Reds this season. Rotowire.com Friday, 11:08 am
    • Likely to return Friday
Encarnacion-Strand (hand) and teammate Tyler Stephenson are expected to return Friday when the Reds host the Orioles, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: The Reds' bats went quiet on their 2-4 road trip against the Rangers and Padres, hitting .201 as a team while averaging 10 strikeouts per game on the trip. Of course, Encarnacion-Strand has been struggling this year in both aspects, hitting .196 with a troubling 3:31 BB:K ratio in 108 plate appearances. Perhaps with better health and better weather he will come close to displaying the form he showed in 2023, when he hit .270/.328/.477 in 241 plate appearances at the big-league level. • Takes seat Wednesday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: Diaz will rest after he had drawn starts in each of the past six games (four at catcher, two at designated hitter). Victor Caratini will replace Diaz behind the dish Wednesday. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:13 pm
