    • Notches seventh save
Hoffman struck out two batters in a scoreless inning to collect the save Tuesday versus the Cubs.

Advice: The Phillies saw a 6-1 lead quickly get cut to 6-4 after Seiya Suzuki hit a three-run shot off Jose Ruiz in the ninth inning, so Philadelphia brought in Hoffman to make sure things didn't get out of hand. Jose Alvarado remains the team leader with 12 saves on the year, but Hoffman has also proven to be a reliable option with a 1.24 ERA in 36.1 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 12:29 am
    • Plates four in loss
Schanuel went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Athletics.

Advice: Schanuel has hit safely in seven straight games, logging multiple hits in five of them. He's also scored a run in five consecutive contests, though he'd produced just one RBI over his previous 10 games before powering the Angels' offense Tuesday. The first baseman is up to a .239/.311/.355 slash line with eight home runs, 30 RBI, 30 runs scored, eight doubles and two stolen bases over 76 contests this season, mainly playing out of the leadoff spot. • Nolan Schanuel plates four in loss to Athletics
Nolan Schanuel had a nice night at the dish in Tuesday’s loss to the Athletics, going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI.

Advice: Schanuel got the Angels off the schneid with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. He then pulled them a bit closer in the seventh with a two-run single that trimmed their deficit to four runs at 7-3. Schanuel also smacked an RBI double off of Mason Miller in the ninth inning and scored on an RBI single by Luis Rengifo. With his two-hit evening, the 22-year-old first baseman is now slashing .239/.311/.355 with eight homers, 30 RBI and a pair of stolen bases on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:01 pm
    • Hoffman picks up surprise save vs. Cubs
Jeff Hoffman pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his seventh save in Tuesday’s win over the Cubs.

Advice: The Phillies entered the ninth inning with a comfortable 6-1 lead but saw that lead slip to 6-4 after reliever José Ruiz failed to record an out while allowing a three-run homer to Seiya Suzuki. Hoffman ended up being tasked with putting out the fire and went on to strike out two of the three batters he faced. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:00 pm
    • Returning to mound Thursday
Burnes will start Thursday's series finale against the Mariners on the road, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: Burnes was activated from the paternity list Monday after missing three games while with his expanding family, welcoming a pair of twins with his wife. With Dean Kremer (triceps) set to return from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Burnes will make his return to the mound Thursday. The right-hander produced a 2.12 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 28 strikeouts over 34 innings in five starts in June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:56 pm
    • D-backs activate Gabriel Moreno for Tuesday return
Diamondbacks activated C Gabriel Moreno from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Moreno is officially back for Tuesday’s series opener against the division-rival Dodgers following a nearly two-week absence due to a left thumb sprain. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:38 pm
    • Activated from injured list
The Diamondbacks reinstated Moreno (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: The 24-year-old landed on the shelf with a sprained thumb June 22 and will rejoin Arizona after being on the injured list for the 10-day minimum. Moreno has a .230/.313/.346 slash line through 61 games this season and should reclaim primary catching duties for the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:18 pm
    • Corey Seager (hand) able to swing a bat on Tuesday
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Tuesday that Corey Seager remains day-to-day with a left hand contusion.

Advice: Bochy added that Seager is doing better after being hit by a pitch during Saturday’s game and was able to progress to swinging a bat again. Although he’s not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres it certainly sounds like he has a shot at getting back into game action at some point in the coming days. • Held out of Tuesday's lineup
Seager (wrist) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: The 30-year-old has had X-rays and an MRI come back negative since being struck in the left wrist by a pitch Saturday in Baltimore, but he'll still sit for the second straight game Tuesday. Josh Smith will receive another start at shortstop as Seager continues to heal up. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:05 pm
