• Blue Jays claim José Cuas off waivers from Cubs
Blue Jays claimed RHP José Cuas off waivers from the Cubs.

Advice: Cuas was designated for assignment last weekend by Chicago after struggling to a lackluster 7.43 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 14/6 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings (nine appearances) this season in the majors. He’ll report to Triple-A Buffalo as extra organizational relief depth for Toronto. Rotoworld 3 minutes ago
  • Claimed by Jays
The Blue Jays claimed Cuas off waivers from the Cubs on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Cuas was jettisoned off Chicago's 40-man roster last week after posting a 7.43 ERA and 1.65 WHIP through 13.1 innings in the big leagues. His Triple-A numbers haven't been much better (6.35 ERA, 1.68 WHIP), and while he will reclaim a 40-man roster spot upon joining his new organization, the 29-year-old righty surely has plenty of work to do in Buffalo before the Blue Jays can consider adding him to their MLB bullpen. • Transferred to 60-day IL
The Yankees transferred Burdi (hip) to the 60-day injured list Sunday.

Advice: Burdi's move to the 60-day injured list is to make room on the 40-man roster for J.D. Davis, who the Yankees acquired from the Athletics on Sunday. Burdi was placed on the 15-day injured list May 24 due to right hip inflammation. He received a platet-rich injection for the injury June 2, but he hasn't been cleared to start throwing. Burdi appeared in 12 games before landing on the injured list, registering a 1.86 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 9.2 innings. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

  • Moving back into rotation
Turnbull is scheduled to join the rotation and start Wednesday against the Tigers in Detroit, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: He'll be taking over the rotation spot that previously belonged to Taijuan Walker, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with right index finger inflammation after developing what manager Rob Thomson termed as a "hot spot" on his pitching hand. Though an injury of this sort wouldn't seem to portend a lengthy absence for Walker, Turnbull could end up sticking around as the Phillies' No. 5 starter once Walker is healthy, so long as Turnbull comes close to recapturing the excellent form he displayed a starter earlier this season. The Phillies have stated that they plan to monitor Turnbull's workload this season after he missed all of 2022 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and a large portion of 2023 due to neck discomfort, but the 31-year-old right-hander has made it difficult for the club to stick to that plan while he's performed so-so as a reliever (4.26 ERA, 14.1 K-BB% in 10 appearances) but exceptionally in his six starts (1.67 ERA, 20.5 K-BB%). His upcoming start against his former Tigers club will be his first since April 30, but Turnbull worked three scoreless innings (49 pitches) in his most recent relief outing Friday and is being targeted for around 70 pitches Wednesday, per Thomson. • Back in Pittsburgh
The Pirates recalled Bruihl from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: With David Bednar (oblique) headed for the injured list, Bruihl will be called upon to fill the open spot in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The 26-year-old southpaw has given up four earned runs in 5.1 big-league innings this season, though he owns a 2.22 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through 24.1 frames in the minors. He'll be used in middle relief while with the Pirates. Rotowire.com Today, 10:36 am
  • Yankees transfer Nick Burdi to 60-day IL
Yankees transferred RHP Nick Burdi to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The procedural move opens up a spot on New York’s 40-man roster for newly-acquired infielder J.D. Davis. The 31-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May due to right hip inflammation. Rotoworld Today, 10:34 am

  • Placed on IL
The Pirates placed Bednar on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a strained left oblique, retroactive to Thursday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bednar reported feeling tightness in his side during his throwing session before Saturday's game and wasn't available to pitch in the game. His injury was initially believed to be relatively minor, so it's possible the 29-year-old reliever will be able to return after a minimum-length stay on the IL. Until then, Aroldis Chapman will likely see the majority of save opportunities, and Justin Bruihl will come up from Triple-A to replenish the Pirates' bullpen depth. • Completes third rehab outing
Hall (knee) struck out one and allowed one hit and two walks over 1.1 innings in his latest rehab outing Thursday with Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Hall has now made three starts for Nashville since resuming his rehab assignment June 13, but he has yet to cover more than two innings or throw more than 36 pitches in any of those outings. His usage would seem to hint that the Brewers envision Hall filling a multi-inning relief role upon his return from the 60-day injured list, after he struggled through four starts with Milwaukee (7.71 ERA, 2.27 WHIP in 16.1 innings) before being shut down April 21 with a left knee sprain. • Covers three innings Saturday
Junis tossed three innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Padres, giving up two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out two.

Advice: Though it might not have been manager Pat Murphy's plan heading into the day, Junis essentially piggybacked starter Carlos F. Rodriguez, who was pulled from the contest after laboring through four innings and racking up 72 pitches. Meanwhile, Junis -- who was making his first appearance since April 2 following his recent reinstatement from the 60-day injured list -- was far more efficient, needing just 39 pitches to record nine outs while largely steering clear of damage until Kyle Higashioka took him deep in the seventh inning for a two-run home run. With Rodriguez now 0-3 with a 7.30 ERA through his first three big-league starts, it wouldn't be surprising if the Brewers optioned him to Triple-A Nashville to open up a starting spot for Junis, who had previously been part of the Opening Day rotation before landing on the shelf in April.
