    • Brandon Pfaadt blows lead in seventh versus Twins
      Brandon Pfaadt surrendered four runs in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Twins.

      Advice: Byron Buxton homered off Pfaadt in the fifth, but that was the only run he allowed until the seventh, when he gave up a three-run shot to Ryan Jeffers. He was at just 80 pitches at the time, so fatigue probably wasn’t much of an issue. Still, it’s hard to go through a quality lineup three times. Pfaadt remained 3-6 with a 4.45 ERA.     • Joe Ryan can’t overcome bad start versus D-backs
      Joe Ryan yielded four runs in six innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.

      Andrew Heaney allowed two earned runs over five innings while striking out four in Tuesday’s loss to the Brewers.

      Advice: Heaney scattered two runs across five frames, allowing an RBI single to Jackson Chourio in the third inning and a solo homer to Joey Ortiz in the fifth. The veteran lefty did a nice job of limiting runs but received only one run of support from his offense, as he remains stuck on just two wins for the year.     • Matt Waldron fans eight in quality start
      Matt Waldron pitched six innings of two-run ball Monday against the Nationals.

      Advice: Waldron struck out eight in a sixth straight quality start. He threw the knuckler 46 times tonight and wound up with nothing but soft contact against the pitch.       Waldron allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings in a no-decision versus the Nationals on Monday.

      Advice: Waldron rattled off his sixth straight quality start, and he's gone nine outings without allowing more than two runs. The run support wasn't there for him Monday, leaving him to take his fifth no-decision of the season. Waldron is at a 3.43 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 84:27 K:BB over 89.1 innings through 16 starts.     • Aaron Nola starts triple play, tames Tigers in win
      Aaron Nola yielded one run over seven innings on Monday in a win over the Tigers.

      Advice: Nola did what he’s done best throughout his career in this one, cruising into the late innings after being staked to a massive lead before even taking the mound at pitcher-friendly Comerica Park. He struck out six batters and didn’t hand out a free pass. A run-scoring single from Carson Kelly in the fifth inning represented the lone tally against him over seven strong frames. He also started an ultra-rare 1-3-5 triple play in the third inning of this one, which was the first in the big leagues since 1929 and only third of its kind in big-league history. The 31-year-old upper-echelon fantasy contributor is prone to the occasional blow-up, but he’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in 13 of his 16 outings this season.       Nola (9-3) picked up the win Monday against Detroit, allowing one earned run on six hits and zero walks while striking out six over seven innings.

      Advice: Nola allowed just one extra-base hit, limiting the Tigers to just one run to notch his sixth quality start over his past seven outings. Despite getting shelled by the Red Sox for eight earned runs on June 13, the 31-year-old owns a robust 3.54 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and a 84:25 K:BB over 94 innings.     • Dealing with elbow inflammation
      Padres manager Mike Shildt said Monday that Darvish (groin) won't be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday versus the Nationals due to "a little" right elbow inflammation, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Darvish had been slated to return from close to a month-long absence with a groin injury, but it's an elbow issue that will delay his activation even further. Shildt's wording would seem to suggest that Darvish is dealing with a minor setback, but a return to the rotation next week isn't guaranteed, especially after Darvish missed the final month of last season with a bone spur in the elbow.
