    • Austin Riley (side) misses 10th consecutive game
Austin Riley (side) remained out of the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: Riley remained out of Atlanta’s lineup for the 10th consecutive contest on Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field recovering from an intercostal strain. The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart hasn’t played since May 12. The positive news here is that he was able to resume hitting on Wednesday without any issues. It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready to return for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:48 pm

    • Missing another start
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: He'll remain on the bench for a 10th consecutive game while he continues to heal up from a left intercostal strain. Atlanta had initially viewed Riley as day-to-day when he departed an April 12 game against the Mets with the injury, but the club likely would have placed him on the 10-day injured list had they known the issue would have kept him out for more than a week. Riley was able to exhibit a sign of progress by taking swings on the field Tuesday, but it's not clear if he'll be on track to rejoin the starting nine during this weekend's three-game series in Pittsburgh. • Austin Riley (side) hits off tee on Wednesday
Austin Riley (side) hit off of a tee without any issues on Wednesday.

Advice: The 27-year-old slugger continues to progress toward a return to the Braves lineup. The next step will be to face live pitching. He has sat out each of the team’s last nine ballgames due to soreness in his side. Zack Short is once again starting at the hot corner for the Braves on Wednesday night against Justin Steele and the Cubs. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:56 pm

    • Sitting again Wednesday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Though Riley took a step forward in his recovery from a left side strain by taking swings Tuesday, he'll remain on the bench for the ninth game in a row Wednesday. Provided he didn't experience any setbacks from Tuesday's activity and is continuing to show daily improvement, Riley still looks like he'll avoid the injured list, and his return to the lineup could happen any day. • Austin Riley remains out Tuesday vs. Cubs
Austin Riley (side) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Cubs.

Advice: No surprise here as Riley will miss his eighth straight contest due to an ongoing side issue after sitting out both contests of Monday’s doubleheader. There’s been zero indication that he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, despite the fact that he’s yet to resume swinging a bat. It’s a frustrating situation for fantasy managers, but it doesn’t sound like the Braves are going to make a roster move at this juncture. It’ll be Zack Short drawing another start at the keystone on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:41 pm

    • Remains out of lineup
Riley (intercostal) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Cubs.

Advice: Riley hasn't played since May 12 because of left intercostal inflammation. Atlanta has resisted putting its third baseman on the 10-day injured list so far, and at this point, it would appear the team will continue to wait things out. He was cleared to take soft swings in the batting cage Tuesday, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com, so Riley at least appears to be making progress in his recovery. Zack Short will again be at the hot corner Tuesday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:39 pm

    • Raps out three hits
Newman went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Newman has five multi-hit efforts over his last nine games, going 15-for-31 (.484) in that span. The shortstop still isn't hitting for a lot of power, but he's been able to make decent contact. For the season, he has a .276/.311/.439 slash line with two home runs, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, a stolen base, eight doubles and a triple over 103 plate appearances. Newman should continue to handle the starting job at shortstop at least until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is able to return, likely in early June. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:39 pm

    • Out again for first game
Riley (side) is not in the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader versus the Padres.

Advice: Riley hasn't played in more than a week due to intercostal inflammation in his left side. He hopes to try swinging a bat soon but would appear to be at least a few days away from returning to the lineup. Zack Short will again be at third base for Atlanta in Monday's afternoon tilt. • Austin Riley (side) feeling much improved Sunday
Austin Riley (side) felt much improved on Sunday and is expected to begin swinging a bat soon.

Advice: For the first time since suffering the injury, Riley didn’t feel anything in his side on Sunday. He’ll now start to ramp back up with the hope that he’ll be able to rejoin the Braves’ lineup in a couple of days. Zack Short will continue to handle the hot corner in his absence.
