    • Matt Waldron gobbles up seven frames vs. Phillies
Matt Waldron allowed one run over seven innings on Wednesday in a win over the Phillies.

Advice: Waldron was extremely impressive on a sizzling-hot, 87-degree afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, finishing with six strikeouts and only handing out a pair of free passes. His lone mistake came in the third inning when he left a sinker out over the plate to Phillies superstar Bryce Harper, who promptly deposited it into the left-field grandstand. The 27-year-old knuckleballer has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts dating back to May 11. He’ll bring a rapidly-improving 3.46 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 76/25 K/BB ratio across 83 1/3 innings (15 starts) into a favorable home outing on Monday against the Nationals. • Suffers right elbow contusion
The Cardinals announced that Arenado was removed in the top of the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Marlins due to a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Initial X-rays on Arenado's elbow appear to have returned negative, but he'll undergo further medical evaluation as the Cardinals look to ascertain that he's not dealing with anything more than a bruise. Before he was lifted from the game for a pitch runner after being hit in the elbow by a 94 mile-per-hour sinker during his fourth plate appearance of the day, Arenado went 2-for-3 with his first stolen base of the season and a run scored. • Cardinals say Arenado has right elbow contusion
The Cardinals said Nolan Arenado has a right elbow contusion after being hit by a pitch Wednesday.

Advice: That doesn’t mean much at this point, since he’s still undergoing tests. It certainly didn’t look good when it happened. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:05 pm

    • Leaves following HBP on elbow
Arenado was removed from Wednesday's game in Miami after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He went 2-for-3 with his first stolen base of the season and a run scored prior to exiting the game.

Advice: A Huascar Brazoban offering in the top of the eighth inning caught Arenado, who went down in a heap. He looked to be in considerable pain and eventually exited the field with a trainer. The Cardinals should have more on his condition shortly. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:54 am

    • Bryan Reynolds crushes go-ahead homer vs. Reds
Bryan Reynolds launched a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning on Wednesday, lifting the Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Reds.

Advice: Reynolds snapped a scoreless stalemate by taking Reds reliever Nick Martinez deep to left-center field with two outs in the eighth inning. It was his 10th round-tripper of the season and wound up being the lone tally for either side in a throwback pitcher’s duel on a sizzling-hot, 87-degree afternoon at PNC Park. The 29-year-old outfielder has a 17-game hitting streak and is batting .343 (24-for-70) with three homers, 10 RBI and one steal during that span since the outset of June. • Nolan Arenado exits after taking pitch off right elbow
Nolan Arenado left Wednesday’s game against the Marlins after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch.

Advice: Arenado was still in a whole lot of pain and not moving his arm as he was helped off. José Fermín replaced him in the contest. If Arenado goes on the IL, Fermín would stand to benefit, but the Cardinals could also give Brandon Donovan more infield time. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:49 am

    • Smacks homer Tuesday
Donovan went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Donovan has gone 15-for-51 (.294) over his last 13 games, adding two homers and seven RBI in that span. The 27-year-old got a rare start at third base Tuesday with Nolan Arenado taking a day off, though Donovan has found consistent playing time between left field and second base for much of the year. He's at a .247/.319/.380 slash line with six homers, 32 RBI, 32 runs scored and one stolen base over 67 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 am

    • Three more hits Tuesday
Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: The Mets' offense has suddenly roared to life, scoring 52 runs over the course of a seven-game win streak, and it's perhaps no coincidence that Alvarez returned from his thumb injury the day before the streak started. The 22-year-old backstop has delivered back-to-back three-hit performances, boosting his slash line on the season to .269/.305/.372 through 24 contests with a homer, nine runs and 14 RBI. • Clubs homer No. 10
Burleson went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Advice: The 25-year-old's shot off Roddery Munoz in the fourth inning was the third of three long balls by the Cardinals on the night, but the offense managed only one more run after that. Burleson is up to 10 homers on the season, and five of them have come in June. Despite the power surge, however, he's slashing just .254/.286/.507 in 70 plate appearances this month, and has produced just seven RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:30 am
