    • Secures 12th save
Alvarado gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 12th save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: The southpaw needed 20 pitches (13 strikes) to put away the BoSox, as he bounced back from his second blown save of the season Sunday. Since getting tagged for five earned runs Opening Day, Alvarado has emerged as the Phillies' primary closer -- he's posted a 1.91 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB through 28.1 innings, and his 12 saves are already a new career high. • José Alvarado secures 12th save of the season
José Alvarado pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure a save in a 4-1 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Advice: Alvarado did allow a one-out single and advanced the runner with a wild pitch, but he was never in any danger of blowing the lead. He now has 12 saves on the season as the main component of a Phillies closer group. He should remain a key piece of the bullpen throughout the season and is a good bet to lead the Phillies in saves even after the trade deadline. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:08 pm

    • Set to be activated Thursday
Mets manager Carlos Mendoz said Tuesday that Diaz (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Diaz is done with his rehab assignment after making two scoreless appearances with High-A Brooklyn. However, the Mets will wait a couple more days before returning the reliever to the active roster. Mendoza didn't divulge plans for Diaz's immediate role, but he should serve as the club's closer sooner rather than later. Diaz has been out since late May with a right shoulder impingement. • Mendoza: Edwin Díaz set to return on Thursday
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Edwin Díaz (shoulder) will be activated on Thursday.

Advice: Díaz struck out three batters in a pair of scoreless relief rehab appearances for High-A Brooklyn and will return to fortify the back-end of New York’s bullpen ahead of Thursday’s series finale against the Marlins. The 30-year-old stopper has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a right shoulder impingement. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:10 pm

    • Secures win Sunday
Sandlin (5-0) pitched a perfect inning to earn the win Sunday over the Marlins.

Advice: The Guardians took the lead in the seventh inning after Sandlin worked the sixth, making him the pitcher of record. While he's allowed multiple runs in two of his last nine outings, he hasn't been charged with a run in his other seven appearances in that span. Sandlin is at a 2.63 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB over 27.1 innings this season while adding a save, four holds and a blown save. The strength of the Guardians' bullpen has kept him from seeing more consistent high-leverage work, as he continues to see mostly middle-innings assignments. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:33 pm

    • Could return Tuesday
Diaz (shoulder) pitched a scoreless inning Sunday for High-A Brooklyn and could return from the 15-day injured list as soon as Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: A report from earlier in the week suggested Diaz could return Wednesday or Thursday, so DiComo's report bumps up his potential return by a day. Catcher Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is also tracking toward a potential return from the IL on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:15 pm

    • Blows second save
Alvarado (1-3) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning against the Mets. He struck out two.

Advice: Alvarado entered the game with a one-run lead looking to preserve his 12th save, but things went downhill quickly. After allowing a walk and a single to start the inning, an infield single by Mark Vientos tied the game. Then with the bases loaded and one out, a hit-by-pitch followed by a passed ball allowed two more runners to score, saddling Alvarado with his second blown save and third loss of the season. Sunday's outing came on the heels of five consecutive scoreless appearances since his last blown save, which came May 24 in Colorado. The outing lifted Alvarado's ERA to 3.54 with a 1.14 WHIP and 31 strikeouts through 28 innings this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 2:59 pm

    • José Alvarado blows save while allowing three runs
José Alvarado took a loss and blew a save while allowing three runs — two earned — in 2/3 of an inning against the Mets on Sunday in a 6-5 loss for the Phillies.

Advice: Alvarado is normally one of the more reliable stoppers in baseball, but Sunday wasn’t a good example of it. The southpaw issued a pair of walks and gave up two hits, and while he wasn’t helped by his defense, it was still a disappointing effort where he threw just 18-of-35 pitches for strikes. Expect Alvarado to bounce back in his next few appearances, but this one stings a bit. Rotoworld Sunday, 10:40 am

    • Falls to San Francisco
Heaney (2-7) took the loss Saturday against the Giants, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: All three of the runs charged to Heaney came off the bat of Heliot Ramos -- the outfielder opened the scoring with a double in the first inning before adding a two-run homer in the third. The 33-year-old Heaney had earned wins in his previous two appearances (one in relief), delivering 8.1 scoreless innings in that span. Overall, he sports a 4.06 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB across 62 innings this season. Heaney is currently lined up for a road start next week in Seattle, though he could find himself back in the bullpen due to Jon Gray returning from the IL. Rotowire.com Saturday, 4:40 pm
