• Jake Woodford hit hard in loss to Red Sox
Jake Woodford was obliterated for seven runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: The Red Sox had no trouble solving Woodford in this one as he surrender a whopping 10 hits, including a leadoff blast to Jarren Duran and a three-run homer to Enmanuel Valdez. He struck out three and also issued three walks. The White Sox don’t have a ton of alternatives to plug into their starting rotation at the moment, but it’s difficult to imagine Woodford getting another turn here. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:52 pm

  • Walker Buehler shaky in short outing vs. Pirates
Walker Buehler was charged with four runs (three earned) over three innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Buehler was staked to a four-run lead before taking the mound at PNC Park, but it vanished by the third inning of this one as he was tagged for seven hits, including a two-run homer by Nick Gonzales. It wasn’t completely his fault as the Dodgers committed a pair of errors and weren’t able to make a couple catches on balls that ended up going for hits and drove up his pitch count in the process. He finished with three strikeouts and only issued one walk. The hard-throwing 29-year-old righty holds a lackluster 4.82 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio across 28 innings (six starts). He hasn’t quite returned to fantasy ace status yet, but it’s still early considering how much time he’s missed since undergoing his second Tommy John surgery. He’ll face the Rangers on Wednesday in his next outing. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:51 pm
  • Bailey Falter lit up for five runs against Dodgers
Bailey Falter was torched for five runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Falter ran into a buzzsaw in the opening frame as Los Angeles’ star-studded lineup tagged him for four runs on five hits, with a three-run homer by Freddie Freeman accounting for the majority of the damage. He struck out six and also issued a pair of walks. The blowup outing snapped a streak of six consecutive starts in which he had allowed three earned runs or fewer dating back to May 5. He’ll aim for better results on Wednesday when he faces the division-rival Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:51 pm
  • Sears strikes out eight in loss to Mariners
JP Sears gave up two runs in six innings with eight strikeouts in a loss Thursday to the Mariners.

Advice: Sears was solid, but unfortunately got a goose egg in terms of run support while on the mound. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Dylan Moore with the bases loaded in the third and an RBI single to Mitch Garver an inning later. The eight strikeouts match a season high for the 28-year-old, and he’ll take a 3.93 ERA into his next start scheduled for Tuesday against San Diego. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:14 pm

  • Bryan Woo blanks Athletics to lower ERA to 1.07
Bryan Woo blanked the Athletics over six innings with six strikeouts in a 3-0 win for the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: Woo allowed just two hits without walking anyone. The right-hander has been spectacular since returning from the injured list, and the six scoreless frames lower his ERA to a miniscule 1.07 on the season. Woo has been able to take advantage of some poor lineups thus far, but there’s simply no denying these kinds of results. He should have no trouble against the White Sox next week. • Getting second start
Woodford is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Advice: The White Sox called Woodford up from Triple-A Charlotte last week to fill the opening in the rotation that was created by Mike Clevinger's (elbow) placement on the 15-day injured list. Woodford's White Sox debut wasn't a memorable one -- he gave up three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings in a May 28 loss to the Blue Jays -- but he'll get at least one more turn through the rotation while the team waits on Clevinger's return. • Aaron Ashby walks five batters in loss to Phillies
Aaron Ashby allowed two runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Ashby struggled with his control in his second start of the season for Milwaukee, handing out five free passes, but was able to limit a formidable Phillies lineup to just a fifth-inning homer by Nick Castellanos. Unfortunately, it was enough to saddle him with a loss as Aaron Nola and a pair of relievers combined on a three-hit shutout. The 26-year-old lefty figures to take the ball at least a couple additional times before the Brewers get some of their starting pitching depth back from injury. He’s in line to start on Tuesday against the Blue Jays back in Milwaukee. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:45 pm

  • Jalen Beeks melts down in ugly blown save vs. Reds
Jalen Beeks was charged with five runs in the ninth inning on Wednesday in a blown save against the Reds.

Advice: Beeks was called upon to protect a narrow one-run lead on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field and wound up recording a pair of outs before serving up a go-ahead two-run homer to Spencer Steer. He was lifted from the contest after loading the bases and was charged with all three additional runs when rookie Angel Chivilli coughed up a grand slam to Jonathan India. Not great. Unfortunately for the Rockies, they don’t have a ton of alternatives at the moment in the ninth inning besides occasionally turning to Tyler Kinley. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:28 pm

  • Fights control in loss
Ashby (0-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Brewers were downed 2-0 by the Phillies, giving up two runs on two hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Advice: The southpaw was recalled from Triple-A Nashville earlier in the day but had trouble finding the plate, tossing 49 of 91 pitches for strikes, and Ashby eventually paid for the free passes in the fifth inning when Garrett Stubbs led off the frame with a walk before Nick Castellanos clubbed a two-run homer. With Robert Gasser (elbow) the latest Milwaukee pitcher to land on the IL, Ashby figures to get multiple turns in the rotation. He lines up to make his next outing at home early next week against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:22 pm
