    • Jack Flaherty takes no-hitter into seventh vs. BOS
Jack Flaherty struck out nine while allowing just one hit over 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball to help the Tigers to a 5-0 win over the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Flaherty didnā€™t allow a hit until there was one out in the seventh inning when Rob Refsnyder was able to break up the no-no. The right-hander has now struck out nine batters in three straight starts, and his K/BB for the month of May is 40/5. Flaherty has been a strong addition to the Detroit rotation, and heā€™s pitched better than his still-solid 3.46 ERA has indicated ā€” especially lately. Assuming no changes to the rotation, heā€™s well worth starting next Tuesday against the Rangers in Texas. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:02 pm
    • Allows one run in no-decision
Verlander did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out nine.

Advice: Verlander got off to a great start, hurling 1-2-3 innings in three of the first four frames before surrendering a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the fifth. The veteran right-hander would only allow a walk from that point on and managed to go seven innings for the third time in his last six starts. Verlander also matched his season high with nine strikeouts, which he also recorded in his previous start against the Athletics. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:12 am
    • Hangs on for 16th save
Holmes picked up the save over the Angels on Wednesday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one hit and one walk.

Advice: Holmes entered the contest with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and surrendered a single and a walk in the first two at-bats before getting Willie Calhoun to ground into a double play. The reliever was then able to retire Logan O'Hoppe on just two pitches to record his 16th save of the season, which ties him with Robert Suarez for third in the major leagues. Holmes has now allowed multiple baserunners in four of his last five appearances and hasn't recorded a strikeout in either of his last two outings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:31 am

    • Justin Verlander strikes out nine in no-decision
Justin Verlander allowed one run with nine strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Verlander scattered three hits and one walk, striking out nine batters for the second consecutive start. The only run the Mariners would score on him came on a solo homer by Dominic Canzone in the fifth inning. The 41-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.26 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 44/15 K/BB ratio across 47 innings. Heā€™ll take on the Cardinals in Houston on Monday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:24 pm
    • Clay Holmes locks down 16th save Wednesday
Clay Holmes pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record a save against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Holmes was called on in the ninth to close it out with a one-run lead over the Angels. He started the inning with a single and a walk before getting two outs on a ground ball double play. Holmes then got Logan Oā€™Hoppe to ground out to end the game with his 16th save. • Tagged for three homers
Ober (5-3) took the loss Wednesday versus the Royals, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking none over five innings.

Advice: Ober gave up hard contact -- Nelson Velazquez hit two home runs and Salvador Perez added a solo shot and an RBI double. This was the first time since his disastrous season debut that Ober allowed multiple homers, though he has yielded seven long balls over his last six starts. He's at a 4.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 58:12 K:BB through 57 innings over 11 starts this season. Ober's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Yankees. • Bailey Ober allows three homers, six earned runs
Bailey Ober struggled against the Royals allowing nine hits, three homers, and six earned runs across five innings in a loss. He struck out four and didnā€™t walk a batter.

Advice: Nelson VelƔzquez took Ober deep twice on nearly identical belt-high pitches. Salvador Perez did the same on another pitch that was practically down the middle. Ober also imploded against the Royals in his first start of the year allowing eight earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings. His ERA against every other team is 3.02 and is still trustworthy despite this latest frustration. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:14 pm

    • Nabs win in Tuesday's matinee
Hudson (2-1) gave up two hits and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, recording the win in a 5-2 extra-inning victory.

Advice: Entering the game in the bottom of the ninth and the score tied, 2-2, Hudson very nearly handed New York the win, loading the bases with just one out. The veteran right-hander bore down and coaxed popups from Tyrone Taylor and Jeff McNeil to end the threat. Hudson has been sharp in May, collecting two saves, a win and a hold in seven appearances with a 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB, but with Evan Phillips (hamstring) due back by the end of the week, the former's stint as a fill-in closer is due to end. • Another stellar showing
Peralta didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing one run on three hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out 11.

Advice: Peralta got no run support again Tuesday, with the Brewers being held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth. Still, the 28-year-old generated 23 swinging strikes in less than six innings and tied his season high in Ks. His only blemish was a solo homer by Michael Busch in the third inning. After yielding three or more runs in three straight starts to open up May, Peralta has yielded two runs -- both solo homers -- with 18 strikeouts in 12.2 innings during his last two starts. He's set up for a start Sunday against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:29 am
