    • Looks sharp in first win
Flaherty (1-3) allowed two runs on five hits across six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Diamondbacks. He walked two and struck out nine.

Advice: Flaherty was sharp as he lowered his ERA to 3.79 and picked up his first win of the season. Despite only having the one win so far, the righty has had a nice bounceback campaign to this point after posting a 4.99 ERA with the Orioles and Cardinals last year. Flaherty has been buoyed by a rise in strikeouts, as he now has an 11.9 K/9 this season, up from 9.2 in 2023. He'll look to keep rolling in his next scheduled outing, which is is penciled in for Thursday against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com Today, 5:44 am
    • Crumbles in fifth frame Saturday
Verlander (2-2) took the loss against Milwaukee on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings.

Advice: Verlander made it through four innings without giving up a run, but things fell apart for him in the fifth. In that frame, he put the first three batters on base via a single and two walks before allowing his first run on a sacrifice fly. Verlander got another out to nearly escape the jam without further damage, but William Contreras sent him to the showers with a three-run blast to center field. Verlander was coming off his best start of the season with seven scoreless innings against Detroit his last time out, though that was preceded by a seven-run, five-inning blowup against the Yankees his previous trip to the mound. He'll try to get back on the right track in his next appearance, which is tentatively lined up to take place in Oakland. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:41 pm
    • Surrenders five runs in loss
Ober (4-2) took the loss against Cleveland on Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four batters over four innings.

Advice: A first-inning, two-run home run by Jose Ramirez set the tone for Cleveland's offense, which ended up scoring in all but one of the four frames during which Ober toed the rubber. The right-handed hurler needed 91 pitches to get 12 outs and finished with his shortest outing since his disastrous eight-run, 1.1-inning loss in his first start of the campaign. Ober had rebounded impressively from that blowup prior to Saturday, posting a 2.16 ERA and 0.67 WHIP over his subsequent seven starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:54 pm
    • Jack Flaherty earns first victory of 2024 season
Jack Flaherty picked up his first victory of the 2024 season on Saturday night, limiting the Diamondbacks to two runs on five hits over six strong frames.

Advice: The right-hander piled up nine strikeouts on the evening while issuing a pair of free passes. He exited after six innings with the Tigers trailing 2-0, but luckily for him they rallied to score six times with two outs in the seventh inning to put him in line for the win. Flaherty got 17 swings and misses on 98 pitches in the contest ā€” 10 on his slider ā€” while posting a terrific CSW of 36 percent. Now 1-3 on the season, heā€™ll tote a 3.79 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and an impressive 72/8 K/BB ratio (54 2/3 innings) into Thursdayā€™s matchup against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:04 pm
    • Justin Verlander allows four in loss to Brewers
Justin Verlander gave up four runs in 4 2/3 innings while receiving a loss to the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: Verlander has essentially alternated strong starts with poor ones since coming off the injured list, and this one goes on the ineffective side. The right-hander allowed four hits and two walks, and the big blow was a three-run homer allowed to William Contreras. Heā€™ll be back on the mound Friday against the Athletics. • Ober allows five runs against Guardians Saturday
Bailey Ober allowed eight hits, five runs and a walk in four innings and took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday.

Advice: This was Oberā€™s worst start since he blew up against the Royals in his first start of the season. He had allowed two earned runs or less in six of his previous seven starts. Oberā€™s ERA is now 4.40 on the season. The 28-year-old right-hander is scheduled to face the Rangers at home next weekend.

    • Charged with five runs
Severino didn't factor into the decision Saturday in Miami, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over 6.2 frames. He struck out three.

Advice: Severino had limited the Marlins to just two runs through six innings of work. He was sent back out for the seventh in a decision Mets manager Carlos Mendoza probably wishes he could have back. Severino gave up a walk, two hits and two runs in the frame before being pulled, and another run was added to his line when an inherited runner scored. In three May starts, Severino has an ugly 13:12 K:BB across 16.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:19 pm
    • Severino allows five in no-decision
Luis Severino allowed five runs in 6 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Metsā€™ 10-9 loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

Advice: Severino was in line for his third win of the season, but the bullpen couldnā€™t hold the lead. He appeared to be cruising through the first six innings having allowed only two runs, but the Marlins scored three times in the seventh. His ERA is now 3.48. Severino only struck out three batters. His 21 percent strikeout percentage is a far cry from where it was during his heyday with the Yankees, but heā€™s getting a lot more ground balls as his 55 percent ground ball percentage is a career-high. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Giants at home next weekend.

    • Notches 13th save
Holmes walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 13th save of the season in a 4-2 win over the White Sox.

Advice: The right-hander is back in a four-way tie for the league lead in saves with Emmanuel Clase, Kyle Finnegan and Ryan Helsley, but Holmes is the only one of the quartet who still sports a 0.00 ERA. The closer's luck on that front will run out eventually, but his 0.98 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB through 19.1 innings highlight how dominant he's been to this point. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:21 am
