    • Christian Yelich (backs) takes BP on field
Christian Yelich (back) was able to take part in batting practice on the field before Monday’s game against the Royals.

Advice: Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters that this was likely the final step before Yelich can return to the lineup. That could mean Yelich won’t take part in a rehab assignment, and assuming he recovers well from this session, the 32-year-old could be back in the lineup by the end of the week. • Hits on field Monday
Yelich (back) did some hitting on the field Monday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

Advice: It's the first time Yelich has hit on the field since he went on the injured list three weeks ago with a lower-back strain. Brewers manager Pat Murphy had indicated previously that it would likely be the final step before Yelich returns to action, although it's not clear whether he might need to go out on a rehab assignment first. The 32-year-old was off to a .333/.422/.744 start with five home runs in 11 contests before getting hurt. Rotowire.com Today, 3:12 pm

    • Set for live BP Tuesday
Giants manager Bob Melvin said Monday that Snell (thigh) will throw a three-inning live batting practice session Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Snell was cleared to face hitters after a bullpen session Saturday went off without a hitch. The Giants will wait to see how the lefty responds to Tuesday's session before determining the next steps, but Snell is trending in a positive direction. Snell hasn't pitched in more than two weeks because of a Grade 2 left adductor strain. Rotowire.com Today, 11:38 am

    • On base three times in loss
Rooker went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs in a loss to the Marlins on Sunday.

Advice: A day after slugging two home runs in the same inning, Rooker laced the only extra-base hit of the afternoon for the Athletics. Rooker's multi-hit effort was his second straight and third in the last eight games, pushing his slash line over the entirety of that span to a spectacular .407/.500/.852 across 32 plate appearances. • Launches grand slam
Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam during Sunday's 11-8 loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Guerrero's grand slam in the second inning off MacKenzie Gore was his fourth of the season and first in 22 games. It was also the first time he homered this season with men on base as he had collected just 11 RBI and hit just .231 coming into the contest. Despite the power outage, Guerrero is currently in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, batting 11-for-32 (.344) with three doubles, a homer, five RBI and three runs scored during that stretch. • Effective against Minnesota
Criswell pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out five batters in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Criswell was once again effective Sunday, limiting the damage against him to just a solo home run by Ryan Jeffers in the bottom of the third inning. The right-hander allowed a double to Carlos Santana to open the bottom of the fifth inning and was ultimately removed from the game after getting Jose Miranda to pop out in the following at-bat, which prevented him from qualifying for the win. Criswell now owns a 1.74 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 20.2 innings in five appearances this season, including four starts. He is tentatively set to return to the mound Saturday at home versus the Nationals. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:30 pm

    • James McArthur blows save in ninth, loses in 10th
James McArthur took a blown save and a loss after allowing two runs — one earned — between the ninth and 10th innings Sunday against the Rangers.

Advice: McArthur blew the save by giving up a game-tying homer to Jonah Heim in the ninth. In spite of that, the Royals stuck with him in the 10th. He allowed only the automatic runner to score, but the Royals couldn’t let him off the hook from there. It’s not the kind of outing that will reflect particularly badly on him. He’s still 7-for-9 saving games, and the loss was his first. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:57 pm

    • Brent Rooker stays hot with two hits in loss
Brent Rooker went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in a loss to the Marlins on Sunday.

Advice: Rooker now has hits in seven of his last eight games and has six hits in this weekend’s series against the Marlins alone. He’s now slashing .256/.348/.615 on the year with eight home runs and 20 RBI. Rooker is a notoriously streaker hitter, so we have no idea how long this heater will last, but he should be on rosters while he’s swinging the bat this well. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:55 pm

    • Blown save, loss versus Texas
McArthur (1-1) blew a save and picked up the loss after he pitched two innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three batters in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning defeat to the Rangers.

Advice: McArthur entered the game with the Royals up 2-1 in the top of the ninth inning and gave up a game-tying solo home run to Jonah Heim with one out in the inning. He later returned for the top of the 10th frame, allowing the inherited runner to score on an RBI single by Nathaniel Lowe. The blown save was McArthur's second in nine total save opportunities this season, and he currently possesses a 2.87 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 15.2 innings in 13 appearances this season.
