• Activated ahead of Tuesday's start
The Reds activated Montas (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Montas is set to rejoin the rotation Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks after missing the last two weeks with a bruised right forearm. The Reds have opted to bring him back without a rehab start, as Montas evidently looked good enough in a couple bullpen sessions to convince the team he was ready. Because of that, he might not be be able to handle a full workload. That, combined with his uneven performance before the injury, makes Montas an iffy fantasy start Tuesday. • Marlins send A.J. Puk on rehab assignment
Marlins sent A.J. Puk (shoulder) on a rehab assignment to Single-A Jupiter.

Advice: The 29-year-old will get another rehab start as he works to get back from a shoulder injury. Puk struck out two batters over an inning of work in the Florida Complex League and will continue to get relief innings with the team deciding to use Puk as a bullpen arm rather than a starter. He’ll need a few more outings at the minor league level before he gets back to Miami’s active roster. Rotoworld 7 minutes ago

  • Officially activated
Friedl (wrist) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

Advice: Freidl has been cleared for big-league action after missing the first month and change of the 2024 campaign with a fractured right wrist. His reinstatement aligns with the start of a three-game homestand against the Diamondbacks, where he'll likely replace Stuart Fairchild as the Reds' starting center fielder. In four rehab starts at Triple-A Louisville, Friedl went 4-for-16 (.250) with three doubles, three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

  • Draws fifth consecutive start
Harris will start at third base and bat ninth in Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: The righty-hitting Harris has now started in five consecutive games at third base since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, with three coming against left-handed pitchers and two coming against righties. Tyler Nevin will find himself as the odd man out of the lineup Tuesday against Rangers righty Jose Urena, but Harris may need to string together more strong performances to ensure he remains more than a short-side platoon player moving forward. Harris turned some heads with a two-homer performance in his second major-league game Saturday, but he's otherwise gone 1-for-10 at the dish in his other three starts. • No timetable for return to majors
Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Abreu has "no timetable" to return to the major-league team, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Abreu was optioned to the rookie-level Astros' Arizona Complex League affiliate last week after hitting just .099/.156/.113 slash line in 77 plate appearances this season. He's been working on getting his swing right and is "doing very well," per Espada, although Abreu hasn't played in any official games yet. The 37-year-old will likely be assigned to a higher minor-league affiliate eventually as he works his way back to the big-league club. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • Resumes hitting
Diaz (calf) has resumed taking batting practice but is not yet running the bases, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The veteran began a light running program in mid-April, but as this latest report indicates, he hasn't progressed to carrying it out fully just yet. The fact Diaz is back to swinging a bat is certainly a positive, however, but he appears to be at least a month away from his season debut given the expected length of the rehab assignment he'll require. • Setback after live BP
Waldichuk (elbow) experienced a setback after throwing a 25-pitch live batting practice April 29 and is shut down for the time being, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The left-hander has not thrown since that session and is slated to be reevaluated in coming days. It's naturally a tough break for Waldichuk, who opened the season on the 60-day IL but had been making uninterrupted progress prior to this recent stumble. Given Waldichuk will almost certainly require a full-length rehab assignment whenever he is cleared for game action, he may be hard-pressed to be ready for activation before mid-June. • Live BP session goes well
Medina (knee) faced hitters during a 20-pitch live bullpen session at the Oakland Coliseum on Monday and came away feeling good, MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's another step in the right direction for Medina, who's now slated to head to the Athletics' minor-league complex in Arizona to throw a simulated game Friday. If that step also goes off without a hitch, Medina is projected to begin a rehab assignment shortly thereafter. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

  • Slight setback in recovery
Andujar has been experiencing some lateral soreness in his surgically repaired right knee after recently beginning to take batting practice, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Manager Mark Kotsay labeled the development a "slight setback" that will slow Andujar's progress briefly. The veteran will eventually need a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, so this latest interruption in his recovery could push his potential return into the latter portion of May.
