    • Eduardo Rodriguez heading for follow-up MRI
Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) will undergo another follow-up MRI exam on July 6.

Advice: If all goes well with that exam, it sounds like the 31-year-old southpaw will finally be cleared to resume throwing off of a mound. Once that’s done, he’ll need several sessions off the mound before facing live hitters and then several minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to join the Diamondbacks’ rotation. It seems optimistic to expect him back anytime before the beginning of August. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • MRI set for July 6
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled for a follow-up MRI on July 6, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Rodriguez extended his throwing program out to 105 feet earlier in June, and Lovullo noted that the southpaw could start throwing off the mound depending on the results of the MRI. Rodriguez has been out all season after straining his left shoulder in spring training, and his initial throwing program was shut down in April due to shoulder tightness. • Still not throwing
Williams (elbow) has yet to start a throwing program, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Williams was placed on the 15-day IL on June 4 with a right flexor strain but remains shut down from throwing. It's safe to assume Williams won't be able to return until after the All-Star break. DJ Herz should continue to make starts in place of Williams. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago
    • Alex Cobb (shoulder) to make rehab start on Sunday
Alex Cobb (shoulder) will make his first minor league rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

Advice: The 36-year-old hurler has missed the entire season thus far while recovering from a shoulder injury. He’s going to need several minor league rehab starts to build back up before he’s an option to join the Giants’ rotation, but it’s nice to see him finally taking strides in that direction. • Devin Williams (back) to throw bullpen Saturday
Devin Williams (back) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler felt great after his first bullpen session, so he’ll continue to ramp up as long as he’s feeling good. He’s also tentatively scheduled to throw his first live batting practice on July 9, assuming that he doesn’t suffer any setbacks along the way. If things go according to plan, he could be ready to return to the Brewers’ bullpen immediately following the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 3:22 pm

    • Rehab continuing at Triple-A
Foster's (elbow) rehab assignment was transferred to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Foster made three appearances in the Arizona Complex League, allowing one run on four hits across three innings. The 27-year-old will take the next, and possibly final, step in his rehab by pitching at Triple-A. Foster hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2022 and is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery. He could be cleared in late July. Rotowire.com Today, 3:17 pm

    • Begins assignment at High-A
Knebel (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with High-A Winston-Salem on Friday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Knebel has been held out of action since tearing his right shoulder capsule in August of 2022. He made three appearances in the Arizonal Complex League, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings, and he'll now test his shoulder against some tougher competition. Once fully recovered, the 32-year-old righty will likely report to Triple-A Charlotte, though the lack of depth in the White Sox's bullpen could eventually allow him to return to the majors for the first time in two seasons. • Throwing at 90 feet
Matzek (elbow) has been playing catch from 90 feet, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Matzek has been shelved since May 7 due to inflammation in his left elbow, but has been slowly progressing since. He's yet to throw off a mound and isn't anywhere close to returning at this point. Rotowire.com Today, 2:38 pm

    • Selected to MLB roster
The Cubs selected Lopez's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: After being released by the Mets in unceremonious fashion, Lopez signed a minor-league deal with the Cubs on June 12. He allowed three runs in one inning during a game in the Arizona Complex League, but he bounced back by throwing 2.2 scoreless frames at Triple-A Iowa. Now that he's back in the majors, the 31-year-old right-hander will presumably work in middle relief. Vinny Nittoli was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:34 pm
