    • Assad allows one in five innings against Giants
      Javier Assad allowed one run in five innings and got a no-decision against the Giants on Monday.



      Advice: Assad gave up five hits, walked two and struck out seven. He won four of his first nine starts of the season, but hasn’t won any of his last six starts. Assad struck out at least seven batters for the fourth time in his last five starts. His ERA is now 2.75 on the year. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home this weekend.

    • Roughed up by Mets
      Cease (6-6) took the loss as he went 3.2 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and three walks Sunday versus the Mets.

      Advice: From the jump, Cease just didn't have his best stuff Sunday, as he allowed the first four hitters to score after serving up homers to Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso. The 28-year-old gave up a season-high seven runs in what was his shortest outing of the campaign. After pitching to a 2.19 ERA over his first eight starts, the righty has run into a rough patch, giving up at least three runs in six of his last seven starts and seeing his ERA climb to 3.95 in the process.     • Dylan Cease chased early against Mets
      Dylan Cease allowed seven earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Mets. He struck out five, walked three, and was tagged with the loss.

      Advice: The Mets jumped all over Cease with a four-run first inning and sent him packing before he could finish four innings. His command was poor overall and he served up meatballs to Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso that found the seats. This was only the third time this season Cease did not complete at least five innings and it’s unlikely Sunday’s start becomes part of a larger trend. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:14 pm

    • Picks up 10th win
      Lugo (10-2) earned the win over the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over six innings while striking out four.

      Advice: Lugo did a great job of working his way out of trouble for most of the contest, with the exception of the fourth inning when he allowed back-to-back hits to open the frame and also hit Jason Heyward with a pitch before eventually surrendering two runs. The right-hander allowed just two more hits over his final two innings of work, notching his 11th quality start of the season and his first this month. Lugo is now tied with Ranger Suarez for the major-league lead in wins with 10 and has gone at least six innings in five consecutive outings. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:23 am

      Jones (4-6) took the loss against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing six runs on six hits and four walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Jones struck out three of the first four batters he faced on the night before allowing two batters to reach in the second, though he managed to escape the inning unscathed thanks to a double-play ball. However, that luck did not continue as the right-hander went on to surrender at least one run in each of the next three frames while issuing a season-high four walks in the contest. Jones has now surrendered five or more runs in two of his last four starts and has issued multiple free passes in five straight.       Jared Jones allowed six runs over his 4 2/3 innings while picking up a loss to the Rockies on Saturday.

      Advice: Jones was not great, and the Pittsburgh bullpen allowed 10 more runs to score in a 16-4 blowout loss to the Rockies. The right-hander gave up six hits, and he also walked four on a night where the command just wasn’t there for the 22-year-old. He still was able to strike out six, and his rookie campaign has certainly been a success even with a couple of so-so outings as of late.     • Lugo gets 10th win after six strong vs. Dodgers
      Seth Lugo gave up two runs in six innings to get a win against the Dodgers on Saturday.

      Advice: The victory is already the 10th of the season for Lugo. The right-hander allowed a two-run single to Gavin Lux in the fourth, but outside of that he handled the Dodgers lineup without many issues. He scattered six hits allowed while walking just one and striking out four. Lugo has been excellent in 2024, and it’d be a surprise if he wasn’t an All-Star at this point.       Kelly (shoulder) is expected to be held out through the All-Star break, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports Saturday.

      Advice: Manager Torey Lovullo noted that Kelly hasn't thrown beyond 75 feet yet and is being brought along slowly. The 35-year-old has been sidelined since late April and didn't start a throwing program until June 4.       Castillo (6-7) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Friday.

      Advice: Castillo received an extra day of rest after Emerson Hancock got a spot start Thursday. It looks like that was a good move, as Castillo was able to bounce back from his worst start of the year to earn his third quality start in his last four outings. He is now at a 3.32 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 92:24 K:BB over 89.1 innings through 15 starts. He's projected for a challenging road matchup versus the Guardians next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:22 pm
