      Advice: Andrews was designated for assignment on Thursday but elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment. The 27-year-old allowed a solo home run while getting just one out in his only MLB game this year and has a 5.84 ERA in 24 2/3 innings at Triple-A as well.       Yankees recalled RHP Jake Cousins from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

      Advice: Cousins has allowed two earned runs on four hits in six innings at Triple-A while striking out eight and walking four. He’s also allowed one run on four hits in three innings for the Yankees this season. He’ll function as a fresh arm in a beleaguered bullpen. Yoendrys Gómez was optioned in a corresponding move.       Jackson (4-1) walked one over 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Thursday. He did not record a strikeout.

      Advice: Hayden Birdsong went 4.2 innings in his debut and left with the game tied at 3-3. Jackson got the Giants out of the top of the fifth inning there, and Luis Matos put them ahead for a good with a solo shot in their half of the frame. Jackson had allowed five runs over 1.1 innings prior to Wednesday, and he's given up multiple runs three times in 10 appearances in June.       The Cubs placed Assad on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right forearm extensor strain, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

      Advice: It's not clear how long Assad's forearm has been bothering him, but he's stumbled in June with a 5.49 ERA after entering the month with a 2.27 mark. Assad had been slated to get a start this weekend in Milwaukee, but the Cubs will need to find a substitute to fill in for that outing and at least one additional start next week, as well.       The Cubs transferred Almonte (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

      Advice: Almonte suffered a setback in his recovery from a right shoulder strain this past week. He remains without an updated return timeline, but his move to the 60-day IL suggests the 30-year-old righty isn't expected back relatively soon.       Advice: Gómez was called up on Saturday after posting a 3.13 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 54/26 K/BB ratio over 46 innings in his 12 starts in the minors. However, he struggled in his only appearance with the Yankees, allowing five runs on four hits in two innings.       Red Sox optioned RHP Isaiah Campbell to Triple-A Worcester.

      Advice: Campbell was just promoted on Monday after posting a 2.19 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 18/3 K/BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings at Triple-A. However, he was lit up for three runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning in his only appearance this week. He’ll try to figure things out at Triple-A; although, that hasn’t helped so far this season.       Kuhl will start Thursday's game against Atlanta at Guaranteed Rate Field.

      Advice: Kuhl had started in 11 of his 13 appearances at Triple-A Charlotte prior to being called up June 14, but his first three outings with the big club have come out of the bullpen. However, Kuhl covered 4.1 innings and 99 pitches in long relief while mopping up in Sunday's 11-2 loss to the Tigers, so even though he'll be pitching on three days' rest, he should be able to provide the White Sox with a decent amount of length in a starting role. Unless he impresses against Atlanta to earn himself a longer stay in the rotation, Kuhl will likely be moved back to the bullpen or sent to the minors after Thursday's start.
