    Josh Lowe (oblique) told reporters on Friday that his rehab is going great and that he feels that he’s ready to be activated from the injured list as soon as the Rays decide to do so.

    Advice: The dynamic 26-year-old outfielder has played in six games during his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham, hitting .227/.346/.364 with a homer, five RBI and a 10/4 K/BB ratio over 26 plate appearances.     The Padres optioned Batten to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

    Lugo (4-1) earned the win Friday in Detroit after he struck out nine and allowed three hits and two walks across even scoreless innings.

    Advice: The right-hander generated 13 swinging strikes on 103 pitches as he and Detroit starter Reese Olson combined to give up just a single run in 14 frames. The swing-and-miss stuff from Lugo was a welcome sight after he posted a 4.1 K/9 through his first five starts of the season.   • Starting at third base Friday
    Machado (personal) was added to the active roster Friday. He is starting at third base while hitting in the cleanup spot for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

    Advice: Machado was placed on the paternity list Monday and ended up missing the Padres' last four games. What's notable about Friday's game is that Machado is starting at third base for the first time since getting surgery on his right elbow in October, while Graham Pauley serves as the designated hitter. Machado's return is a welcome one with rookie Jackson Merrill missing his second straight game due to a lingering groin issue.   • Hamstring partially torn
    Rendon said Friday that he has a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

    Advice: Rendon landed on the injured list Sunday with a left hamstring strain, but it appears his injury is more severe than the Angels initially thought. There is no timetable in place for his return, but he will certainly be sidelined for longer than the 10-day minimum.   • Dealt tough loss
    Olson (0-4) took the loss Friday against the Royals after he allowed one run on three hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

    Advice: The right-hander allowed a run on two hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly during the third inning but otherwise kept Kansas City off the board. It wasn't enough to prevent Olson's fourth straight loss, however, as Detroit was shut out for the third time this season.     Max Kepler is not in the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s ballgame against the Angels.

    Advice: It’s the second straight game that Kepler has sat against a left-hander — this time Patrick Sandoval.
