    • Moving up to Double-A
Astros manager Joe Espada said on Tuesday in an interview with SportsTalk 790 that Garcia's (elbow) next rehab start will come Thursday at Double-A Corpus Christi, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Garcia threw one inning with the Astros' Florida Complex League affiliate this past Friday in his first rehab appearance. It's not clear what his targeted pitch count is for Thursday's outing, but Garcia will need a handful of rehab starts before becoming an option to join the Astros' rotation. He's making his way back from Tommy John surgery. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:47 am

    • Luis Garcia (elbow) making rehab start Thursday
Luis Garcia (elbow) will make a rehab start Thursday for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Advice: Garcia will be making his second rehab appearance after throwing one inning Friday in the Florida Complex League. The 27-year-old right-hander has missed all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he’ll likely need to make a few more starts before having a chance to join Houston’s rotation after the All-Star break; likely closer to August than the middle of July. • Poised for season debut next week
Marquez (elbow) will make one more rehab start before rejoining the Rockies' rotation next week, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Advice: Marquez holds a 9.58 ERA and 14:4 K:BB over 10.1 innings in his first five rehab starts and in his last outing with Triple-A Albuquerque retired just two batters before getting pulled. His highest pitch count during his rehab assignment has been 52 (on June 16) and he threw just 33 pitches in his last start. Marquez is working his way back from Tommy John surgery. • At least one more rehab game
Thomas (hamstring) will remain with Triple-A Reno and play another game Tuesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After playing Tuesday, the team will reassess whether Thomas is ready to be activated. He sustained the injury during the fourth game of the season and has missed three months because of it. Thomas was originally anticipated to return in early May, but his rehab was paused twice since then. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:55 am
    • Hitting bench in Candelario's return
Martini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Martini had started in each of the past four games, but his uptick in playing time appears to be linked to Jeimer Candelario (hamstring) missing each of those contests. With Candelario back in the lineup Sunday as the Reds' designated hitter, Martini's opportunities are likely to take a hit moving forward. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:09 am

    • Idle against southpaw
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Sanchez will take a seat for the second time in the series as the Phillies send another southpaw (Ranger Suarez) to the hill. Dane Myers will replace Sanchez as the Marlins' starting right fielder. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:18 am
    • Getting day off versus lefty
Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Lowe will hit the bench for the series finale while Washington sends southpaw Patrick Corbin to the hill. Jose Caballero checks in at second base for Lowe. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:26 am
    • Being evaluated for activation
The Diamondbacks will assess Sunday whether Thomas (hamstring) is ready to be activated from the 10-day injured list, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Thomas played in rehab games Friday and Saturday for Triple-A Reno. He started in center field and played nine innings on both occasions. The outfielder has a combined 32 plate appearances while on his rehab assignment and is hitting .310/.344/.483 between stops with Reno and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. • Throws one rehab inning
