    • Earns 13th save
Fairbanks earned a save against the Nationals on Friday, walking one in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Fairbanks was asked to protect a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning and worked around a one-out walk to secure his 13th save of the season. The closer has rebounded from a blown save June 20 to nail down three consecutive scoreless saves. He is now 13-for-15 in save chances with a 3.14 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 30:13 K:BB over 28.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago
    • Surrenders six runs in loss
Perez (1-4) took the loss Friday versus Atlanta, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks over four innings with four strikeouts.

Advice: The 33-year-old veteran looked rusty in his return from the injured list after leaving a May 26 start -- coincidentally, also against Atlanta -- with a groin injury. Perez managed to last 92 pitches, finding the zone with only 39.1 percent of them, down significantly from his previous season average of 54.8 percent. The Pittsburgh southpaw's ERA now stands at 5.28 across 61.1 innings. He looks to bounce back in his next start, currently scheduled to be against the Cardinals at home. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago
    • Jose Quintana chased in fifth inning
Jose Quintana allowed two earned runs in four-plus innings on Friday against the Astros. He struck out seven and walked three in a no-decision.

Advice: Quintana has struck out 15 batters in his last two starts. He’s also been throwing far more curveballs over his last two starts, 33% and 23% respectively after throwing it under 20% of the time so far this season. While the strikeouts are a nice development, he still nibbles outside the zone far too much to regularly pitch deep into games. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

    • Martín Pérez hammered by Braves
Martín Pérez allowed six earned runs in four innings of work Friday against the Braves. He struck out four and walked two in a loss.

Advice: Atlanta put up five of their six runs against Pérez in a loud third inning that included two doubles, three singles, and two walks. His usual pitch-to-contact plan fueled by sinkers and cutters did not work against the Braves’ suddenly surging lineup. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago
    • Albert Suárez scoreless over six innings in win
Albert Suárez shut the Rangers out over six innings on Friday. He struck out two and walked none in a 2-1 win for the Orioles.

Advice: This was Suárez’s first quality start of the season. In fact, it was the first time he completed six innings. He didn’t have great swing and miss stuff or command of his off-speed pitches, but filled up the zone with his fastball and forced the Rangers into plenty of lazy fly balls. It’s hard to get very excited about him until we see more consistent strikeout totals. He has just 21 punch outs in 25 innings this month. Rotoworld Today, 6:45 pm

    • Craig Kimbrel nails down another save
Craig Kimbrel struck out two Rangers in a clean ninth innings to earn the save for Baltimore on Friday.

Advice: Kimbrel has been nails of late. He’s converted 11 of his last 12 save chances and allowed just one earned run since May 10th. He’s been one of the best and most surprising closers in baseball this season. Rotoworld Today, 6:44 pm
    • Randy Vasquez diagnosed with forearm contusion
Randy Vasquez was diagnosed with right forearm contusion after being hit by a line drive during Friday night’s start against the Red Sox.

Advice: Fortunately, it sounds like the 25-year-old hurler was able to avoid any serious injury after being struck by a Ceddanne Rafaela line drive to open the fifth inning on Friday. Unfortunately, his early exit from the game did cost him a victory. He should be able to make his next scheduled turn in the Padres’ rotation on Thursday against the Rangers in Texas. • Pete Fairbanks slams door on Nationals in ninth
Pete Fairbanks slammed the door on the Nationals in the ninth inning on Friday night, protecting a two-run lead to earn his 13th save of the season.

Advice: Fairbanks had to work a bit in the ninth inning of this one, as he issued a one-out walk to Keibert Ruiz to bring the tying run to the plate. He battled back though, getting Eddie Rosario on a line drive to right field and Nick Senzel on a ground ball to first base to end it. In all, he needed 22 pitches (13 strikes) to get the job done. On the season, Fairbanks now sports a 3.14 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 30/13 K/BB ratio over 28 innings to go along with 13 saves and two victories. Rotoworld Today, 6:26 pm
    • Struck by comebacker, exits early
Vasquez was removed from his start Friday against the Red Sox after getting hit in the right forearm by a comebacker, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Vasquez took a 98-mph line drive off his forearm during the fifth inning of Friday's contest, and he was taken out of the game after conferring with a trainer. He'll head into the clubhouse for imaging, and the Padres should have an update on the severity of his injury within the near future. The 25-year-old righty had allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out one batter over four innings before being taken out of the game. Rotowire.com Today, 6:17 pm
