The 26-year-old fantasy stalwart, who holds a .766 OPS with nine homers and three steals in 129 plate appearances this season, has been at the epicenter of trade rumors the last few weeks.       Advice: The New York southpaw scattered seven singles en route to his third quality start of 2024. After issuing eight free passes across 10.1 innings in his previous two outings, Peterson was much sharper in this appearance, walking fewer than two for just the second time this season in six starts.       David Peterson threw 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball Monday in a no-decision against the Nationals.

      Advice: Peterson struck out just two and gave up seven hits, but since he’s quite good at keeping the ball on the ground, those hits produced just 10 total bases. He remained 3-0 with a 3.51 ERA through six starts. We don’t entirely trust him at this point, but he’s a valid option in deeper leagues. He’ll face the Pirates next.       Astros general manager Dana Brown said Justin Verlander (neck) has resumed playing catch.

      Advice: The 41-year-old has been on the injured list since the middle of June with a neck issue, and the Astros have been tight-lipped about his recovery. According to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome, “Verlander has deferred all questions to the team, which remains insistent this injury is just a neck issue,” but the team has said that he’ll need a prolonged buildup and then at least one rehab start, which means a return before the All-Star break feels unlikely.
