    • Justin Steele sharp over 4 2/3 in return from IL
Justin Steele fired 4 2/3 shutout innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Padres.

Advice: Steele limited San Diego’s offense to just three hits and one walk, notching a pair of strikeouts, in his return at Wrigley Field following a five-weeks absence due to a hamstring strain. The 28-year-old ace averaged nearly 92 mph on his four-seam fastball in this one and got his pitch count up to 68 (43 strikes) before being lifted in the fifth inning. He’s in line to face the Pirates on Sunday his next time out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:42 pm
    • Sharp in return
Steele allowed three hits and a walk over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out two during the loss to San Diego.

Advice: Steele made his first start since straining his hamstring during his Opening Day outing. He showed no signs of rust but was clearly on a limit, as he threw only 68 pitches. He gave up one extra-base hit but otherwise kept San Diego's bats quiet. Steele has given up one run through 9.1 innings in two starts this season. The 28-year-old should be able to pitch deeper in his next outing, which is lined up to be in Pittsburgh this weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:33 pm
    • Coughs up three runs
Castillo (3-5) yielded three runs on three hits over 6.2 innings Monday, striking out seven and taking a loss against the Twins.

Advice: Castillo fired four shutout frames before the Twins broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. He later was charged with two more runs in the seventh. Entering Monday's start, Castillo had turned in four straight outings with two or fewer earned runs allowed. He's factored into the decision in each of his eight starts and snapped his three-game winning streak Monday. Despite the up-and-down start to his season, Castillo has registered a solid 3.54 ERA with a 56:11 K:BB through 48.1 innings. His next start is currently projected to be at home against Oakland this weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:55 pm
    • Luis Castillo pitches well, but picks up loss to Twins
Luis Castillo gave up three runs — two earned — over 6 2/3 innings in a loss Monday to the Twins.

Advice: Castillo allowed just an unearned run over the first six, but two more crossed the plate in the seventh. The right-hander struck out seven against three walks, and it was another solid outing for the 31-year-old right-hander. Castillo has a very friendly match-up coming over the weekend against the Athletics. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:52 pm
    • Out against lefty
Gorman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Advice: The Cardinals are facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Sean Manaea) for the second day in a row, so the lefty-hitting Gorman will once again head to the bench. Jose Fermin will fill in for Gorman at second base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:44 pm

    • Could return during Padres series
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Bellinger (ribs) could be activated from the 10-day injured list at some point during the team's current series versus the Padres, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Bellinger did some hitting and defensive work Monday, and Counsell noted that the outfielder won't require a rehab assignment before returning from the IL. His activation would appear to be imminent, though Bellinger won't be available for Monday's series opener. Bellinger has been on the shelf for nearly two weeks with a fracture in his right ribcage, resulting in Pete Crow-Armstrong taking hold of an everyday role in center field. • Activated ahead of Monday's start
The Cubs activated Steele (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Monday against the Padres at Wrigley Field.

Advice: Steele will rejoin the rotation Monday after being sidelined since straining his left hamstring Opening Day. The left-hander threw just 63 pitches in his lone rehab outing, so he'll likely have his workload curtailed Monday to some degree. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:19 pm
    • Cubs activate Steele (hamstring) for start Monday
Cubs activated Justin Steele off the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Steele is off the IL and will be the starter for the Cubs on Monday against the Royals. The left-hander made one rehab start while recovering from his hamstring trouble, but he should be stretched out enough to provide fantasy value in the coming weeks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:46 pm
    • Nolan Gorman sitting out again Monday vs. Mets
Nolan Gorman is not in the lineup Monday against the Mets.

Advice: Gorman will sit for a second-consecutive game with left-hander Jose Quintana on the mound. Jose Fermin is getting the start at the keystone while leading off against Quintana and the Metropolitans. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:34 pm
