• Gregory Santos (lat) ready for rehab assignment
Gregory Santos (lat) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Advice: Santos has been sidelined since spring training due to a right lat strain. The 24-yera-old right-hander is only expected to need a couple of appearances there before he’s ready to return to the Mariners’ bullpen. If all goes according to plan, he could be ready to return before the end of next week. Rotoworld Friday, 4:54 pm

  • Debuts with eight-inning gem
Daniel (1-0) picked up the win over the Tigers on Thursday, pitching eight scoreless innings while striking out eight.

Advice: Daniel was phenomenal in his first career start, generating 13 swings and misses while allowing only three runners to reach second base over his eight innings of work. The 27-year-old threw 21 of 26 first-pitch strikes and didn't walk a batter. Daniel has almost certainly earned himself another start with Thursday's dominant performance. • Strikes out seven in no-decision
Hicks did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman against the Cubs. He struck out seven.

Advice: Hicks' outing was marred by a rough third inning in which he hit a batter, allowed two steals and gave up a homer and triple among three hits during the three-run frame. Otherwise, Hicks faced just two batters over the minimum during the other four innings, recording at least seven strikeouts for the fourth time this season. He'll carry a strong 3.36 ERA into his next start, tentatively scheduled to take place next week when the Giants travel to Atlanta for a mid-week series. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:50 pm

  • Davis Daniel fires eight scoreless in ’24 debut
David Daniel struck out eight over eight shutout innings on Thursday in a win over the Tigers.

Advice: Daniel was brilliant in his season debut, allowing just four hits over eight scoreless frames in a 5-0 victory for the Angels. His velocity was actually down from his major league outings last year — he averaged 91.7 mph and topped out at 93.0 mph with his fastball tonight — but he induced 13 missed swings and had a 35 percent CSW. We’re still not particularly optimistic here, even if his peripherals were considerably better than his 5.33 ERA in Triple-A, but it’s certainly a nice start that should serve to keep him in the rotation for now. • Shuster gets win with three in relief
Jared Shuster picked up the win while throwing three scoreless innings in relief in the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta.

Advice: Shuster came in to work three innings of bulk relief after Chad Kuhl exited after three frames. The 25-year-old is the 27th player for the doubleheader against Atlanta — Shuster’s former organization — and he made a case for staying up while striking out two and allowing just one hit. Shuster has pitched well in his limited chances with the White Sox, but even if he did get called up into a full-time role, there’s a lot working against him as a potential fantasy option. • Jordan Hicks strikes out seven, allows three vs. Cubs
Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff. In his first season with the Giants, Hicks had a 3.36 ERA, 76/33 K/BB and 1.28 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings in his 17 starts. Rotoworld Thursday, 4:51 pm

  • Angels recall Davis Daniel for Thursday start
Angels recalled RHP Davis Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Daniel will make his season debut on Thursday evening against the Tigers after posting a pedestrian 5.33 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 82/25 K/BB ratio across 76 innings (14 starts) this season for Triple-A Salt Lake. The 27-year-old righty made three relief appearances last year for Los Angeles in his first taste of the majors. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:53 pm
  • Promoted ahead of start
The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Thursday's game versus Detroit.

Advice: Daniel has yet to pitch in the majors this season despite joining the active roster for one day in May. He posted a 2.19 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 12.1 innings across three games with the Halos last season, but fantasy managers should expect results closer to his Triple-A statline (5.33 ERA, 1.50 WHIP in 76 innings) as he makes his first career MLB start Thursday. Guillermo Zuniga was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:43 pm
  • Completes 15-pitch side session
Hendriks (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday consisting of about 15 fastballs, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Hendriks was back on the mound for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August and was upbeat following the workout. The veteran reliever believes he can make it back from the 60-day injured list by the end of August, but he's not far along enough in the rehab process yet for the Red Sox to put a definitive target date on his return. The Red Sox signed Hendriks to a two-year deal in February with the understanding that anything the right-hander gave the club in 2024 would be a bonus, so the team likely doesn't have any visions of the three-time All-Star supplanting Kenley Jansen as the team's closer when he eventually returns.
