• Phillies call-up reliever Yunior Marte
Phillies recalled RHP Yunior Marte from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Marte was activated off the IL on Tuesday and optioned to Triple-A, but it will be a short stay as he makes his way back to the MLB roster to take the place of Spencer Turnbull, who was placed on the 15-day IL. Marte will remain with the Phillies until they need a fifth starter and then likely head back to Triple-A. Rotoworld Today, 12:17 pm

  • Likely to join rotation
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said after Wednesday's game that Mercado would likely join the rotation if Spencer Turnbull (lat) needed to miss time, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Turnbull has since been placed on the 15-day injured list, so it would appear Mercado is set to join the Phillies' rotation next week. Mercado made one one-inning relief appearance earlier this week in his major-league debut, but he's been used mostly as a starter this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, collecting a 1.71 ERA and 44:23 K:BB over 47.1 frames covering 10 starts and four relief outings. The 25-year-old's first big-league start is tentatively lined up to come Tuesday in Chicago against the Cubs. Rotowire.com Today, 12:17 pm

  • Rejoins bullpen
The Phillies recalled Marte from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

Advice: Marte held a 2.70 ERA and 12:5 K:BB over 13.1 frames with the Phillies earlier this season before missing time with a shoulder issue. He will operate in middle relief. Rotowire.com Today, 12:05 pm

  • Finds work with Cleveland
Boyd (elbow) agreed to terms with the Guardians on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: It's unclear how much more rehab work Boyd has to do after undergoing Tommy John surgery last June, but the Guardians seem comfortable enough with his progress to bring him in on a major-league deal. The 33-year-old southpaw posted a 5.45 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 71 innings over 15 starts with the Tigers before getting injured last season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:05 pm

  • Remaining in rotation
Wesneski will remain in the Cubs' rotation following the injury to Javier Assad (forearm), Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Wesneski got a spot start Wednesday in San Francisco as the Cubs gave other members of their rotation some extra rest. However, with Assad landing on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Wesneski will stick in the rotation indefinitely. He's tentatively lined up for two starts next week at home against the Phillies and Angels. Rotowire.com Today, 11:54 am
  • Jorge Mateo starts third straight game at 2B
Jorge Mateo is starting at second base and hitting ninth for the Orioles on Thursday against the Rangers.

Advice: Mateo has now started three straight games and four of the last five. However, he’s hitting just .240/.282/.453 with five home runs, 12 steals, and a 23 percent strikeout rate. However, he’s hitting just .225 in June and Coby Mayo is on fire in Triple-A, so Mateo might need to go on a hot streak to keep getting starting opportunities. Rotoworld Today, 11:39 am

  • Alex Cobb will throw a bullpen on Friday
According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Shayna Rubin, Alex Cobb (shoulder) will throw a bullpen on Friday.

Advice: Cobb has been out all season with a shoulder injury. He had been nearing a return before pausing his throwing program in the middle of May. He’s now ramping back up again and, if all goes well on Friday, he will have a rehab assignment with Triple-A San Jose after.

  • Sitting third straight
Urias isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: After making three straight starts at third base, Urias has now been absent from the Orioles' last three starting lineups. Jordan Westburg will move to the hot corner Thursday while Jorge Mateo starts at the keystone and bats ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 11:32 am

  • Rehab assignment coming
Cobb (hip/shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Friday and could begin a rehab assignment with Single-A San Jose afterward if everything goes smoothly, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Cobb has been trending in the right direction since being shut down in May due to soreness in his right (throwing) shoulder. However, he still needs to build back up to a starter's workload after spending all season on the injured list, so he likely won't return to the Giants' rotation until after the All-Star break.
