• Elects free agency
Nittoli cleared waivers Sunday and elected to become a free agent.

Advice: Nittoli was pushed off Oakland's 40-man roster Friday in order to make room for Osvaldo Bido. Rather than returning to Triple-A Las Vegas, the 33-year-old Nittoli will look to latch on with another organization -- likely in a situation that would offer MLB playing time. He owns a 2.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through eight innings in the big leagues this season and has posted similar numbers in Triple-A, so he could attract a fair amount of attention on the open market. • Tosses seven scoreless
Sanchez (5-3) earned the win Sunday, allowing three hits and striking out four over seven scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Sanchez was highly efficient, needing just 80 pitches through seven and facing just one batter over the minimum thanks to a couple of timely double plays. The seven innings matched a season high for Sanchez, who tossed his eighth quality start and allowed zero runs over six or more innings for the second time this season. It's also the fifth time in his last six starts that Sanchez has allowed one or fewer runs, posting a 1.78 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 23 strikeouts over 35.1 innings during that stretch. His next start is scheduled to take place next weekend when the Phillies welcome Miami into the City of Brotherly Love for a four-game set. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
  • Blue Jays claim José Cuas off waivers from Cubs
Blue Jays claimed RHP José Cuas off waivers from the Cubs.

Advice: Cuas was designated for assignment last weekend by Chicago after struggling to a lackluster 7.43 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 14/6 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings (nine appearances) this season in the majors. He’ll report to Triple-A Buffalo as extra organizational relief depth for Toronto. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
  • David Fry leaves game Sunday with possible injury
David Fry made an early exit from Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays with a potential injury.

Advice: MLB.com’s Henry Palattella adds that Fry was apparently struck in the head by a practice swing from Danny Jansen in the opening frame, so it’s highly likely he’s been lifted from the contest for precautinary reasons to undergo testing for a possible concussion. There should be an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Cristopher Sánchez cruises in win over D-backs
Cristopher Sánchez shut out the Diamondbacks for seven innings, surrendering just three hits, in the Phillies’ 4-1 win Sunday.

Advice: Sánchez walked none and struck out four in the 80-pitch outing. He gave up a 387-foot fly to Christian Walker in the first that would have been a homer in nine ballparks, but CBP wasn’t one of them. Sánchez has still allowed just one homer in 84 1/3 innings for the year. He’s 5-3 with a 2.67 ERA. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago
  • Slade Cecconi lifted after three versus Phillies
Slade Cecconi was lifted after allowing one run in three innings Sunday in his start against the Phillies.

Advice: Since the Diamondbacks didn’t use their key relievers Saturday and have tomorrow off, they were aggressive in going to the pen today. Cecconi allowed five hits in three innings, so it’s not like he was having an easy time out there anyway. He wound up with the loss, leaving him 2-6 with a 5.74 ERA. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • David Dahl knocks in two in Phillies’ victory
David Dahl went 2-for-4 with two RBI against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Advice: Dahl broke a 1-0 game open in the sixth after an odd balk from Justin Martinez advanced an additional runner into scoring position. Dahl also homered as a pinch-hitter in Saturday’s rout. Prior to that, he’d been in a 2-for-28 rut after a strong first three games with the Phillies. He’ll continue to start in left field against righties for now. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Eugenio Suárez goes hitless in fifth straight game
Eugenio Suárez went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the loss to the Phillies on Sunday.

Advice: There was talk of Suárez playing less after Geraldo Perdomo came off the IL earlier this month, but it’s barely materialized; he sat out two of Arizona’s first five games with Perdomo back, but he’s now started six in a row, even though his results have remained awful. This is his fifth straight hitless game, and his average is down to .192. His last multi-RBI game came on Apr. 22. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago
  • Claimed by Jays
The Blue Jays claimed Cuas off waivers from the Cubs on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Cuas was jettisoned off Chicago's 40-man roster last week after posting a 7.43 ERA and 1.65 WHIP through 13.1 innings in the big leagues. His Triple-A numbers haven't been much better (6.35 ERA, 1.68 WHIP), and while he will reclaim a 40-man roster spot upon joining his new organization, the 29-year-old righty surely has plenty of work to do in Buffalo before the Blue Jays can consider adding him to their MLB bullpen.
