  • Garcia blasts 15th home run in loss Thursday
    Adolis Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Orioles on Thursday.



    Advice: Garcia’s home run was his 15th of the season. It hasn’t been Garcia’s best season, but he’s showing what it means to possess a solid floor. He’s only hitting .219, but he’s still on pace for around 30 home runs with 15 stolen bases and run totals in the mid-80s. Even though Garcia isn’t repeating the monster season he produced last year, he’s still carving out a pretty nice year for himself.

  • Imaging comes out clean
    Darvish had imaging on his right elbow come back clean Wednesday, though he'll likely get additional imaging "for peace of mind," Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports.

    Advice: Darvish has recovered from a groin injury and was originally expected to come off the injured list to start Tuesday, but that plan was scrapped when he developed inflammation in his right elbow. Initial indications suggested that the issue is minor, and the clean imaging seems to support that, though San Diego will likely be cautious with the veteran hurler's return.     Castro went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over Arizona while also being hit by a pitch.

    Advice: Castro was hit by a pitch in his second at-bat and responded with a leadoff double on the first pitch in his next trip to the plate, before then coming home on a double from Trevor Larnach. The utility man would add a two-run homer in the fifth to increase Minnesota's lead to seven runs, giving him two homers over his last five games. Castro has also hit safely in nine straight, posting multiple hits in five of those contests. He's batting .405 (15-for-37) over that stretch with eight RBI and nine runs scored.     Heim went 2-for-3 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 6-5 loss to Milwaukee in 10 innings.

    Advice: Heim and Nathaniel Lowe hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning, snapping a 12-game homerless streak for Heim. The outing was also Heim's first multi-hit game since June 5.   • Struggles again Wednesday
    Gil (9-3) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings.

    Advice: Gil was stung by both hard hits and walks -- three of the four knocks he allowed went for extra bases, and he also surrendered four free passes. His final two walks were particularly detrimental, as both runners came around to score following his departure. Gil has now put forward two straight poor outings, giving up 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his past two starts. He had a 2.02 ERA and was being mentioned in discussions about AL Cy Young Award contenders after a June 14 win against Boston, but his subsequent struggles have increased is ERA by over a run to 3.15.   • Yields five runs in no-decision
    Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Milwaukee, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out four.

    Advice: Eovaldi had a troublesome third inning, allowing Jackson Chourio to reach on a leadoff single before letting Christian Yelich and Willy Adames get on base with two outs, leading to a Jake Bauers grand slam. The other run charged to Eovaldi came in the fourth frame, when Derek Hill couldn't make a diving catch in center field, allowing Chourio to get all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. Eovaldi's five runs allowed tied his season high, and he's allowed a home run in five consecutive starts. Overall, he owns a 3.45 ERA and 74 strikeouts across 73.0 innings.
