• Garrett Mitchell reaches twice in 2024 debut
Garrett Mitchell singled and walked in three plate appearances off the bench in his season debut Monday against the Rockies.

Advice: The single was hit 108 mph, so this was definitely a nice start for Mitchell. It’ll take consistent playing time to make him a factor in mixed leagues, so he’s probably not an option right now. He offers plenty of upside, though. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago
  • Brewers have no plans to use Sal Frelick at third
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said he’s open to playing Sal Frelick at third base with Garrett Mitchell back, but that he has no immediate plans to do so.

Advice: Before Mitchell suffered a fractured finger at the very end of the spring, it looked like the Brewers would mostly play Mitchell in center and Frelick at third, with Joey Ortiz serving as a utilityman. Ortiz, though, has earned regular playing time, and Frelick has totaled just four innings at third base since the season started. Frelick would seem to be the favorite for playing time in center field at the moment, but both he and Mitchell are taking a backseat to Blake Perkins tonight. Rotoworld Today, 4:05 pm

  • Reps at third base not ruled out
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Monday that using Frelick at third base is a possibility following the return of Garrett Mitchell, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Frelick had been in line for regular reps at the hot corner before Mitchell was hurt late in spring training. However, with Joey Ortiz having since established himself at third base, it sounds like Frelick seeing action there won't be a priority. Frelick has played four innings at third base this season, which is the first time he's been used there in pro ball. Rotowire.com Today, 3:58 pm

  • Throws, hits in cage
Bryant (oblique) did some throwing and hit in the batting cage Monday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Advice: There remains no timetable for Bryant's return to action, but he does appear to be making progress as he works his way back from a left oblique strain. Bryant has already missed nearly a month of action and will require a rehab assignment before being activated. Rotowire.com Today, 3:06 pm

  • Not in lineup versus southpaw
Mitchell is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest in Colorado.

Advice: Mitchell was activated from the 60-day injured list earlier Monday but will begin his first game back on the bench. It's not a surprise, as the Rockies are starting lefty Austin Gomber, and most of the playing time for the left-handed hitting Mitchell figures to come versus righties. Rotowire.com Today, 2:51 pm
  • Out against left-hander
Frelick is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Colorado.

Advice: With the Rockies sending southpaw Austin Gomber to the hill, the left-handed hitting Sal Frelick will take a seat. Christian Yelich, Blake Perkins and Jackson Chourio will be the Brewers' outfield trio. Rotowire.com Today, 2:48 pm

  • Hunter Goodman sits for Rockies on Monday
Hunter Goodman is back on the bench Monday after making his first start in four games Sunday.

Advice: It’s like the Rockies stopped viewing Goodman as an option at first base and in right field after Elias Díaz got hurt last month and still haven’t changed that mindset, even though Díaz is back now. Goodman last started at a position other than catcher on June 10. Obviously, Jake Cave is just too good to sit. Rotoworld Today, 2:38 pm

  • Returns to Triple-A club Monday
Triple-A Reno reinstated Barrosa (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Monday.

Advice: The 23-year-old outfielder missed about three weeks of action during his second IL stint of the season. Barrosa previously appeared in three games for Arizona in early April, but he'll likely stick around at Reno for the foreseeable future unless the Diamondbacks outfield is hit by the injury bug. • Free agent after opting out
The Twins released Kemp on Monday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Advice: Kemp had a July 1 opt-out clause in his minor-league contract and decided to exercise it. The utility player slashed .279/.358/.436 with six homers in 46 games with Triple-A St. Paul. He'll now look to latch on in another organization. Rotowire.com Today, 2:09 pm
