• Getting breather Thursday
Amaya is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in San Francisco.

Advice: Amaya started four of the first six games after Tomas Nido was added to the roster, but he'll yield to Nido for this one. The Cubs will be trying to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Giants. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago
  • Getting regular playing time
Matos will start in right field and bat sixth Thursday against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Matos is being included in the lineup for the fifth time in six games, and he looks like he'll hang on to a regular role in the corner outfield while Mike Yastrzemski (oblique) is on the injured list. Since getting called up from Triple-A Sacramento last weekend, Matos has gone 6-for-14 with a solo home run. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Hitting bench against southpaw
Conforto is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Conforto will hit the bench for the second time in the series as the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the hill. The Giants will go with the right-handed-hitting Austin Slater in left field in place of Conforto, who had plated at least one run in four of his last five games. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago
  • Clayton Andrews elects free agency
Former Yankees LHP Clayton Andrews has elected free agency.

Advice: Andrews was designated for assignment on Thursday but elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment. The 27-year-old allowed a solo home run while getting just one out in his only MLB game this year and has a 5.84 ERA in 24 2/3 innings at Triple-A as well. He’ll look to latch on with another organization. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago
  • Resting against lefty
Wisely is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Wisely will take a seat for the second time during the four-game series with the Cubs while Chicago sends another lefty (Shota Imanaga) to the hill. Nick Ahmed will fill in for Wisely at shortstop, while outfielder Austin Slater replaces Wisely atop the batting order. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

  • Yankees bring back Jake Cousins from minors
Yankees recalled RHP Jake Cousins from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Cousins has allowed two earned runs on four hits in six innings at Triple-A while striking out eight and walking four. He’s also allowed one run on four hits in three innings for the Yankees this season. He’ll function as a fresh arm in a beleaguered bullpen. Yoendrys Gómez was optioned in a corresponding move. • Sitting against lefty Thursday
Villar is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Wilmer Flores will man first base while the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the mound, but even though he's a right-handed hitter like Flores, Villar looks as though he'll be the preferred option against right-handed pitching. Villar started both of the last two nights against righties, going 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. The 27-year-old's stay atop the depth chart may not last long, however, as top first baseman LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is in the midst of a rehab assignment and could be activated from the injured list as soon as this weekend. • Collects fourth win
Jackson (4-1) walked one over 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Thursday. He did not record a strikeout.

Advice: Hayden Birdsong went 4.2 innings in his debut and left with the game tied at 3-3. Jackson got the Giants out of the top of the fifth inning there, and Luis Matos put them ahead for a good with a solo shot in their half of the frame. Jackson had allowed five runs over 1.1 innings prior to Wednesday, and he's given up multiple runs three times in 10 appearances in June. Overall, he's struggled to a 6.12 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 20:14 K:BB through 25 innings while adding two holds and three blown saves in a low-leverage role this year. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago
  • Moved to 60-day IL
The Cubs transferred Almonte (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Almonte suffered a setback in his recovery from a right shoulder strain this past week. He remains without an updated return timeline, but his move to the 60-day IL suggests the 30-year-old righty isn't expected back relatively soon. The Cubs signed Vinny Nittoli to an MLB deal Thursday to fill the open spot on the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago
