• Tarik Skubal shuts down Phillies for seven frames
Tarik Skubal recorded seven strikeouts over seven scoreless innings on Tuesday in a win over the Phillies.

Advice: Skubal retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced in a dominant performance at Comerica Park against a red-hot Phillies lineup. He generated an absurd 19 swinging strikes, including 11 on his changeup alone, and needed just 91 pitches (64 strikes) to navigate seven shutout frames. It was a much-needed rebound for the 27-year-old southpaw after allowing nine runs (eight earned) over his previous two starts against the Braves and Astros, respectively. He’ll carry a stellar 2.32 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 112/19 K/BB ratio across 97 innings (16 starts) into a road matchup on Tuesday against the Twins. Rotoworld Today, 5:50 pm

  • Ranger Suárez stumbles in loss to Tigers
Ranger Suárez allowed four runs over six innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Suárez was simply outdueled by Tigers ace Tarik Skubal on Tuesday night at Comerica Park as the pair traded zeroes until the fifth inning when Detroit’s lineup struck for four runs on five hits in the frame. He finished with four punchouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. It was just the second time this season through 16 starts that he’s allowed four earned runs or more. He’s in line for an extremely favorable home matchup on Sunday against the Marlins. Rotoworld Today, 5:50 pm

  • Start moved to Thursday
Manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Imanaga's next start will be moved back from Wednesday to Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: The Cubs will give Imanaga an extra day to rest after he was lit up for 10 earned runs in just three innings during his last start. Despite his awful performance Friday, the 30-year-old southpaw has still been strong overall with a 2.96 ERA and 1.10 WHIP alongside an 81:12 K:BB through 79 innings over 14 starts. Counsell didn't name a replacement starter for Wednesday, though he noted a bullpen game is the most likely scenario. Rotowire.com Today, 5:45 pm
  • Josiah Gray sharp on Tuesday in rehab outing
Josiah Gray (elbow) allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Gray struck out four, didn’t hand out a free pass, and got up to around 90 pitches in his latest rehab outing. The 26-year-old righty should be ready to return to Washington’s starting rotation at some point later this week or early next week. He’s been on the shelf since early April due to a flexor strain in his right elbow. Rotoworld Today, 5:31 pm

  • Reds sending Connor Phillips to Arizona for reset
Reds RHP prospect Connor Phillips has been reassigned to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: It’s been an extremely tough start to the year for Phillips, who was a top-100 prospect as recently as last year. The 23-year-old righty, who made five starts last year for Cincinnati, has struggled to a disastrous 10.11 ERA, 2.26 WHIP and 53/50 K/BB ratio across 57 innings (14 starts) this year for Triple-A Louisville. The complete erosion of his command is startling and he’s going to head to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League to focus on building back up from scratch. Rotoworld Today, 5:16 pm
  • Gavin Williams (elbow) to make another rehab start
Gavin Williams (elbow) will make another minor league rehab start on Wednesday.

Advice: Williams got his pitch count up to 66 during his most recent rehab outing last Friday for Double-A Akron when he struck out four and allowed one run over five innings and now appears to be getting close to making his season debut. The 24-year-old former top pitching prospect has been on the shelf since spring training recovering from a right elbow injury. Rotoworld Today, 5:10 pm

  • Zac Gallen (hamstring) decision coming this week
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday.

Advice: Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters they’ll make a decision on Gallen’s next step following his latest throwing session. The hope here for fantasy managers is that the 28-year-old ace will be ready to jump right back into Arizona’s starting rotation without needing a rehab assignment. There should be a decision on his status at some point later this week. Stay tuned. Rotoworld Today, 5:07 pm

  • Roansy Contreras to start Wednesday against A’s
Roansy Contreras will start on Wednesday against the Athletics.

Advice: It’s a favorable matchup for streaming purposes, but Contreras is too risky to roll the dice on, with the notable exception of extremely deep mixed leagues or AL-only formats. The 24-year-old former prospect was acquired last month from the Pirates in a small trade and has fared reasonably well in nine relief appearances for Los Angeles. Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters they’re hoping to get at least four or five innings out of Contreras on Wednesday afternoon. Rotoworld Today, 4:10 pm
  • On cusp of rehab assignment
Manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Garcia (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment with the Astros' Florida Complex League affiliate this weekend, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 27-year-old threw a 32-pitch live bullpen session over the weekend and is just about ready for game action. Garcia will likely need to throw another bullpen session before being cleared for games, at which point he'll jump into a lengthy rehab assignment as he finishes up his recovery from May 2023 Tommy John surgery.
