Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Castro will get a breather for the first time since April 15, ending a streak of 20 consecutive starts at four different positions (shortstop, third base, left field and center field). Third base and center field will likely be Castro's primary homes for the foreseeable future while Royce Lewis (quadricep) and Byron Buxton (knee) remain on the injured list. • Red Sox designate Zack Short for assignment
Red Sox designated INF Zack Short for assignment.

Advice: Short was just acquired from the Mets a week ago for cash considerations, but he’ll be placed on waivers for the third time this year as the Red Sox needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster. Once again, there may be interest around the league in the glove-first infielder. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

    • Bobby Witt Jr. homers to lead Royals past Brewers
Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-3 with a solo homer on Wednesday, propelling the Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Brewers.

Advice: Witt reached base safely in three of his four plate appearances and wound up scoring half of Kansas City’s runs in this one. His eight-inning blast off Brewers reliever Joel Payamps was his fifth of the season and turned out to be an important insurance run as Milwaukee attempted to mount a late comeback in the ensuing frame. It was the first time he’s gone deep in nearly one month since a two-homer outburst back on April 11. Rotoworld Today, 1:57 pm
    • Brice Turang collects three hits in Brewers’ loss
Brice Turang went 3-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in the Brewers’ loss to the Royals.

Advice: Turang capped off a three-hit performance with a run-scoring double off Royals reliever Tyler Duffey in the ninth inning, but wound up being stranded in scoring position representing the potential tying run. The 24-year-old speedster has made the most of his opportunity this season, emerging as Milwaukee’s everyday second baseman, posting an .826 OPS with two homers and 14 steals through 34 contests so far. • Brayan Rocchio delivers game-winner in 10th
Brayan Rocchio went 2-for-4 with a game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th as the Guardians defeated the Tigers 5-4 on Wednesday.

Advice: The Guardians just needed one in the 10th, and they got it after a sac bunt to advance the runner to third. The single accounted for Rocchio’s fifth RBI in 120 plate appearances this season. He’s batting .223/.319/.301 with middling defense, so there’s still the possibility that the Guardians will make a change at shortstop at some point. Rotoworld Today, 1:38 pm
    • Removed from 40-man roster
The Red Sox designated Short for assignment Wednesday.

Advice: Short has been swapped off the 26-man active roster in favor of utility man Romy Gonzalez (wrist), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. He'll also lose his spot on the 40-man roster, as Short had no minor-league options remaining and will thus have to be subjected to the waiver process before potentially heading to the Red Sox's top affiliate in Worcester. Short played in just two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts. Rotowire.com Today, 1:19 pm

    • Checking out of starting nine
Lopez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Advice: Lopez recently overcame a sore adductor and started at second base in the first two contests of the series in Tampa, going 2-for-7 at the plate. The White Sox haven't indicated that Lopez suffered a setback with the injury, so his absence Wednesday is presumably maintenance-related. Rotowire.com Today, 1:17 pm

    • Checks back into starting nine
Espinal will start at third base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Espinal saw a streak of six consecutive starts come to an end in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to Arizona, and before that, he enjoyed a stretch of 11 consecutive starts. He looks as though he could fall into regular playing time once again, as the Reds placed Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Jeimer Candelario will move over from his usual spot at third base to cover Encarnacion-Strand's post at first base, opening up the hot corner for Espinal. Despite seeing plenty of usage in his utility role this season, Espinal has provided the Reds with underwhelming numbers (.169 average, one home run, four stolen bases, 12 RBI and five runs) across 90 plate appearances. • Moving into regular role
Newman will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Newman will make his third straight start at shortstop -- all against right-handed pitching -- and looks to have supplanted Blaze Alexander as the Diamondbacks' preferred option at the position while the team waits for Geraldo Perdomo (knee) to return from the injured list. Though he's turned in a poor .559 OPS through 62 plate appearances with Arizona this season, Newman has been a much more polished defender at shortstop than Alexander. Rotowire.com Today, 12:18 pm
