    • Heading to bench Sunday
Fairchild is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Blake Dunn will get the nod in center field while Fairchild sits for the series finale. Fairchild had started in 12 of the previous 13 games, slashing .256/.289/.395 with one home run and four stolen bases over that stretch. Despite his middling production at the plate this season, Fairchild should hold down a near-everyday role in the Cincinnati outfield until TJ Friedl (hamstring) returns from the injured list. • Julio Rodríguez (quad) out Sunday against Toronto
Julio Rodríguez (quad) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s finale against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Rodríguez was removed with a right quad injury during Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays, and it’s unsurprising that he’s going to miss at least one full game with the injury. How much more time he misses will depend on the results of his MRI. Victor Robles gets the start in center field and will hit ninth against Toronto on Sunday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:22 am

    • Taking seat Sunday
Taylor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Taylor has been operating as the Mets' primary right fielder since Starling Marte (knee) landed on the injured list June 25, but he'll exit the starting nine Sunday to clear a spot for DJ Stewart. Thus far during Marte's absence, Taylor is hitting just .162 over 10 games, but five of his six hits during that stretch have gone for extra bases (three home runs, two doubles). • Kevin Pillar likely to retire after 2024 campaign
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Kevin Pillar is likely to retire after the 2024 season.

Advice: Pillar just recently reached 10 years of MLB service, a big deal as it means that his pension is now fully vested. The 35-year-old outfielder has been outstanding since joining the Angels with a slash of .299/.355/.512 over his 138 at-bats, so it’s possible if he keeps playing well he could change his mind. For now it appears this will be the last year of MLB action for the outfielder. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:46 am

    • Launches first career homer
Wood went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI in Saturday's 14-6 rout of the Cardinals.

Advice: It was a huge day for the Nationals' young offense, and Wood was at the center of the eruption, crushing an opposite-field three-run home run off Lance Lynn in the second inning. It took the 21-year-old only six MLB games to launch his first homer, and Wood hasn't had much trouble adjusting to big-league pitching since his promotion, batting .304 (7-for-23) with a 4:6 BB:K. • Sets off offensive explosion
Rooker went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional RBI and three total runs in Saturday's 19-8 shellacking of the Orioles.

Advice: Rooker kicked off a huge day for Oakland's offense with a three-run blast in the first inning. The outfielder finished with his fourth three-hit game of the campaign and notched his third game with at least four RBI. Rooker made a name for himself in fantasy circles for the first time last season when he collected 30 homers and 69 RBI, and he's on pace to surpass both marks this year with 18 long balls and 54 RBI through 312 plate appearances. • Done with rehab assignment
Nootbaar (oblique) said Saturday that he has finished his rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield and is heading to St. Louis, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.

Advice: Nootbaar spoke to Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol on Saturday, and though his rehab assignment is now completed, it's unclear if the outfielder will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list before the big club's series in Washington comes to an end Monday. After Monday's contest, the Cardinals will return to St. Louis to kick off a five-game homestand that begins Tuesday versus the Royals. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:00 pm
    • Wood has first home run, knocks in five in win
James Wood went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI against the Cardinals on Saturday.

Advice: Wood hit his first double and home run in the major leagues in this game. He clubbed a three-run home run off Lance Lynn in the bottom of the second inning to make it 7-0 Nationals. In the third inning, he knocked in two more runs with a double. In 23 at-bats, he’s hitting .304 with an .885 OPS for Washington. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:45 pm
    • Julio Rodríguez will undergo MRI on injured quad
Julio Rodríguez is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam after leaving Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays in the first inning due to discomfort in his lower right quad area.

Advice: The 23-year-old outfielder looked uncomfortable while tracking a fly ball in the outfield during the top half of the first inning, then he was replaced by Ty France before he had a chance to take his first at-bat. The Mariners should have the results of his imaging before Sunday’s game, so expect another update on his status before then. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:38 pm
