    • Luis Gil’s struggles continue in loss
Luis Gil allowed four runs on two hits in four innings in a loss to the Reds on Tuesday.

Advice: The command simply wasn’t there for Gil on Tuesday, walking three and striking out three while throwing 83 pitches in just four innings. There has been some concern that Gil is hitting a bit of a wall after allowing 16 earned runs in his last 9 2/3 innings. The Yankees maintain confidence in the 26-year-old, but he left a lot of sliders up in the zone today and struggled to command his changeup, so perhaps he is getting a little tired in his breakout season. • J.D. Martinez scratched Tuesday with ankle soreness
J.D. Martinez was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup due to left ankle soreness.

Advice: It sounds like a precautionary move here by the Mets as they don’t want to take any chances with Brandon Nimmo (head) already sitting out due to injury. The 36-year-old veteran slugger will presumably be available to pinch-hit, if needed, during Tuesday’s contest against the Nationals. Rotoworld Today, 3:09 pm

    • Scratched with ankle soreness
Martinez was scratched from the Mets' lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus Washington due to left ankle soreness, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The severity of Martinez's injury isn't immediately apparent, but it's enough of a nuisance to keep him from playing Tuesday. Luis Torrens will step into the lineup as New York's designated hitter and bat sixth while Martinez rests. Rotowire.com Today, 3:00 pm

    • Kyle Harrison (ankle) throwing bullpen on Tuesday
Kyle Harrison (ankle) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: Harrison isn’t expected to require a minor league rehab assignment before returning to San Francisco’s starting rotation mix after suffering a right ankle sprain back in mid-June. It sounds like he could be back prior to the All-Star break, but that isn’t a lock. Rotoworld Today, 2:12 pm

    • Does some hitting Tuesday
Stanton (hamstring) did some hitting Tuesday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.

Advice: It would appear to be the first time he's done any hitting since he landed on the 10-day injured list a little over a week ago with a left hamstring strain. Stanton is moving in the right direction but is still expected to miss about four weeks of action. Rotowire.com Today, 1:32 pm

    • Slugs go-ahead homer in extras
Martinez went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two walks in Monday's 9-7 win against the Nationals.

Advice: The New York designated hitter blasted a titanic 420-foot homer off Hunter Harvey in the 10th inning to break the tie. The round tripper was a welcome sight for Martinez, as he entered this contest on a bit of a cold spell, slashing .211/.333/.342 across 47 plate appearances in his previous 10 games with just one homer. The veteran power hitter now sports a .278 with 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 22 runs scored in 209 at-bats overall. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:07 pm

    • Quality start in no-decision
Peterson did not factor into the decision in Monday's 9-7 win versus Washington, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: The New York southpaw scattered seven singles en route to his third quality start of 2024. After issuing eight free passes across 10.1 innings in his previous two outings, Peterson was much sharper in this appearance, walking fewer than two for just the second time this season in six starts. The 28-year-old now sports a 3.51 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB in 33.1 overall innings. He is currently slated to make his next start against the Pirates in Pittsburgh this weekend. • J.D. Martinez homers in 10th to propel Mets
J.D. Martinez hit a three-run homer in the 10th and walked twice Monday as the Mets bested the Nationals 9-7.

Advice: This was a 3-3 game through nine, but Martinez broke the game open with his homer off Hunter Harvey in the 10th. The Mets went on to score three more times in the frame, which proved important after the Nationals came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Martinez’s homer was his 10th in 239 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:32 pm

    • David Peterson turns in quality start for Mets
David Peterson threw 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball Monday in a no-decision against the Nationals.

Advice: Peterson struck out just two and gave up seven hits, but since he’s quite good at keeping the ball on the ground, those hits produced just 10 total bases. He remained 3-0 with a 3.51 ERA through six starts. We don’t entirely trust him at this point, but he’s a valid option in deeper leagues. He’ll face the Pirates next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:32 pm
