    • Becomes free agent
Bowman opted out of his contract and was granted his release Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Bowman put pen to paper on a minor-league contract June 16 after electing free agency June 14, but he'll once again test the open market after struggling at Triple-A Tacoma. He surrendered one run in four of his last five relief appearances prior to opting out. Rotowire.com Monday, 5:07 pm

    • Slated for bulk relief
Wilson will be used as a bulk reliever in Monday's game versus the Rockies, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Brewers often use an opener ahead of Wilson, and Monday will be no different with reliever Rob Zastryzny slated to take the ball first. Wilson tossed six shutout frames in bulk relief his last time out Tuesday, picking up a win against the Rangers. Rotowire.com Monday, 10:25 am

    • DL Hall will make one more rehab start
Brewers manager Pat Murphy confirmed that DL Hall (knee) will make “at least one more” rehab start with Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Hall threw 60 pitches in three innings on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four and walking one. While he gave up some hard contact, his four-seam fastball averaged 94.7 mph, which is up over two mph from his early starts with the Brewers. The team has worked to get his velocity back up while he was rehabbing his knee, and the work may have paid off. Hall was an intriguing fantasy starter coming into the year and might be in for a solid summer if he can remain healthy. Rotoworld Monday, 7:56 am

    • Notches fifth win
Beeks (5-4) blew the save and picked up the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing an unearned run on two hits and zero walks while striking out one batter in two innings of work.

Advice: Beeks came on in the 13th inning and allowed the ghost runner to score on an RBI single by Luis Robert, resulting in a blown save. The 30-year-old rebounded in the 14th inning, however, retiring the side in order to earn his fifth win of the season. Although Beeks was used in a high-leverage role Sunday, Tyler Kinley pitched two scoreless innings in the 11th and 12th and remains the preferred late-inning option for the Rockies. Beeks will continue to be in the mix for saves, but he is just 6-for-11 in save opportunities this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:59 pm

    • Drawing another start
Contreras will start Thursday's game against the Athletics in Oakland, Doug Padilla of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: The Angels will get Jose Soriano (abdomen) back from the injured list Tuesday, but with Patrick Sandoval (elbow) getting ruled out for the season last week and with Zach Plesac getting sent down to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, Contreras and Davis Daniel will both get at least one more turn through the rotation. Since he had been working exclusively out of the bullpen this season before being called upon to start last Wednesday in Anaheim versus the Athletics, Contreras was capped at three innings and 61 pitches in the outing. Though he likely won't be stretched out quite enough to handle a typical starter's workload, Contreras should at least be able to give the Angels five innings if he's more efficient with his pitch count in the rematch with Oakland. • In midst of rehab assignment
Castro (shoulder) made his second rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Saturday, striking out four and allowing one hit and no walks over two scoreless innings.

Advice: Castro was placed on the Diamondbacks' 15-day injured list April 23 with right shoulder inflammation but looks to be closing in on a return after turning in a pair of scoreless appearances in the ACL. According to MLB.com, manager Torey Lovullo previously said that the Diamondbacks are targeting this upcoming Wednesday for Castro's return from the IL, but that date could be pushed back if the organization first wants him to get in some work with a higher-level affiliate. • Handed tough-luck loss
Montas (3-6) allowed a run on two hits and three walks over six innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against St. Louis.

Advice: Montas gave up an RBI sacrifice fly to Alec Burleson in the third inning but otherwise didn't face too much trouble. However, the Reds were shut out by the Cardinals and Montas was stuck with the loss. He generated 17 whiffs, his second-highest total of the year. He's produced back-to-back quality starts and has three in five outings this month. Montas lowered his season ERA to 4.23 with a 58:30 K:BB through 72.1 innings. His next start is projected to be on the road against the Yankees. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:11 pm

    • Frankie Montas takes tough loss in 1-0 game
Frankie Montas limited the Cardinals to one run and two hits over six innings in a losing cause Friday.

Advice: Montas wasn’t as strong as the line suggests; he allowed nine hard-hit balls and two would have been homers had this been a home game. Since it was played in St. Louis instead, Nolan Gorman had a flyout on a ball that was a homer in 24 parks and Michael Siani settled for a double on a shot that was a homer in 12 parks. • Alec Marsh strong for six against Guardians
Alec Marsh pitched six innings of one-run ball Friday in a victory over the Guardians.

Advice: Marsh came into the night with a 6.61 ERA in his previous six starts, so he needed this. Since it’s just the fifth time this year that he’s completed six innings, he has only four quality starts. Nevertheless, he’s 6-5 with a 4.19 ERA. Rotoworld Friday, 8:33 pm
