    • On bench against lefty
Cruz isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game versus Atlanta.

Advice: Cruz and his .351 OPS against left-handed pitchers will retreat to the dugout Saturday as the Pirates prepare to face southpaw Max Fried. Jared Triolo will fill in as Pittsburgh's shortstop and bat seventh. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

    • Oneil Cruz absent from Saturday’s lineup vs. Braves
Oneil Cruz is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Braves.

Advice: Despite the presence of lefty Max Fried on the mound for Atlanta in this one, this might be a mental break more than anything for Cruz, who is batting .143 (4-for-28) with two homers and one steal over his last seven games. He’s been mired in an extended funk the past few weeks, hitting .195 (23-for-118) with just four homers and two steals over his last 30 contests. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago

    • Beginning to ramp up rehab
Muncy (oblique) took swings off a tee, fielded groundballs and did some throwing Friday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Muncy's progress from a Grade 1 right oblique strain has been slow to the extent that he was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 21. However, the third baseman appears to be beginning to ramp up, and the Associated Press reports that his next step will be to take live batting practice before potentially beginning a rehab assignment. Muncy isn't expected to return to the Dodgers' lineup until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 9:22 am

    • Three hits Friday
Rafaela started at shortstop and went 3-for-4 with a double in Friday's 9-2 loss to San Diego.

Advice: Rafaela is having a productive June, but he entered the game on a 1-for-18 run. The multi-hit effort was his eighth of the month, and the infielder/outfielder is batting .417 (20-for-48) over the last 13 games. This was his third consecutive start at shortstop, as manager Alex Cora adjusts to get his hottest bats in the lineup: Jarren Duran slotted in at center field while David Hamilton manned second base. • Max Muncy (oblique) resumes swinging
Max Muncy (oblique) progressed to taking swings off a tee earlier this week.

Advice: Muncy isn’t eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until after the All-Star break in a couple weeks, but he’s starting to make some progress towards a second-half return. The veteran corner infielder’s recovery from a right oblique strain that he suffered back in mid-May has gone much slower than originally anticipated, and it’s certainly had a negative impact on the Dodgers’ overall offensive output. • Goes deep in win
Soderstrom went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Soderstrom has hit all but one of his homers this season over his last 17 games, batting .262 (16-for-61) in that span. The 22-year-old is at a .229/.321/.449 slash line with seven homers, 18 RBI, 12 runs scored and five doubles across 41 contests overall. He's seen regular playing time at first base against right-handed pitchers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:18 pm
    • Swipes second bag
Miranda went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Miranda is 18-for-49 (.367) over his last 15 contests, adding eight extra-base hits and 14 RBI in that span. The third baseman's streak of drawing a walk in five straight games ended Friday, but he's still showing good plate discipline with a 5.6 percent walk rate and 14.1 percent strikeout rate. For the year, Miranda is slashing .293/.339/.491 with eight home runs, 35 RBI, 26 runs scored and two steals over 65 contests. The Twins continue to rotate Miranda and Royce Lewis between third base and designated hitter, offering both consistent playing time. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:09 pm
    • Slugs 11th homer
Merrill went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 9-2 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: The rookie capped San Diego's improbable nine-run fifth inning by sending a Greg Weissert fastball over the fence in straightaway center field. Merrill's power has emerged as the weather has heated up -- while his 11 homers through 82 games is already good for a 21-year-old in his first MLB campaign, eight of those long balls have come in his last 15 contests, a stretch in which he's batting .309 (17-for-55) with 11 runs and 16 RBI. • Jackson Merrill homers in nine-run fifth inning
Jackson Merrill hit a three-run homer to camp a nine-run fifth as the Padres bested the Red Sox 9-2 on Friday.

Advice: The Padres were held scoreless until the fifth, when the first nine batters totaled nine runs on eight hits and one walk against Nick Pivetta and Greg Weissert. Merrill concluded the rally with the second homer of the inning. After that, the Padres put their bats back to bed, coming up with just one hit off Chase Anderson in the final four innings. Merrill’s homer was his 11th in 82 games. His current .282/.318/.439 line is a near match for the .277/.326/.444 he came in at least year, only that was compiled in high-A and Double-A.
