    • Wilyer Abreu (ankle) set to return on Friday
Wilyer Abreu (ankle) is likely to return for Friday’s series opener against the Reds.

Advice: Abreu hammered a pair of solo homers on Wednesday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Worcester and is expected to rejoin the club for the start of a series out in Cincinnati. The 24-year-old has been on the shelf since early June when he suffered a right ankle sprain when he slipped on the dugout steps. His return will provide a lift for the Red Sox, who are riding a five-game winning streak. Rotoworld Today, 5:37 pm

    • Henderson has three-hit game Thursday
Gunnar Henderson went 3-for-5 with a walk, two doubles, three runs scored, and an RBI against the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Henderson has a hit in 13 consecutive games. He’s 19-for-56 (.339) with 15 runs scored and eight RBI in that time. On the season, Henderson is up to .279 with a .965 OPS, 22 home runs and 50 RBI. Rotoworld Today, 4:45 pm

    • Zack Gelof homers Thursday for third straight game
Zack Gelof went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Gelof’s home run was his eighth of the season and his third consecutive game with a home run. He’s still just hitting .202 on the season, but the power is starting to show up. Gelof hit 14 home runs in 69 games last year and could be a decent power source in the middle infield going forward. Rotoworld Today, 3:56 pm

    • Josh Hader strikes out two in save vs. White Sox
Josh Hader struck out two while firing a scoreless frame to get a save against the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Even with the two strikes, Hader needed just 14 pitches — 12 of those strikes — to get the save. The left-hander has now 11 in his first season as a member of the Astros, and he’s been much better than his 3.78 season ERA might indicate. Rotoworld Today, 2:04 pm

    • Jasson Domínguez out two months with oblique strain
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Jasson Domínguez will miss up to eight weeks with an oblique strain.

Advice: We knew an oblique strain would keep Domínguez out for at least a couple weeks, but this is an extensive period of time and one that could threaten his ability to contribute big-league at-bats this season. If Domínguez doesn’t return to minor league action until late August and then gets a couple of weeks to get his timing back at Triple-A, it would be September even before the Yankees can think about promoting him. If all goes well, he could be a candidate for a mid-September call-up, but the Yankees would then be thrusting him into a major role in the middle of a pennant race after missing a major chunk of time. It’s a shame because he was looking great after Tommy John surgery, hitting .356/.404/.609 with six homers and 13 RBIs in 23 games across three levels. Rotoworld Today, 12:05 pm

    • Out eight weeks at Triple-A
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Dominguez will be out for up to eight weeks at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre due to a "significant" left oblique strain, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Boone labeled Dominguez's oblique strain as "moderate" Wednesday, but the injury now appears to be more severe than the Yankees initially believed. The 21-year-old outfielder already missed the first two-plus months of the Triple-A season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and an eight-week return timeline will keep him out of action until at least mid-August. • Sitting against lefty
Raley is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: With lefty Logan Allen on the hill for Cleveland, Raley and fellow left-handed-hitting regulars Dominic Canzone and Josh Rojas will retreat to the bench. Victor Robles will step in for Raley as the Mariners' starting left fielder. Rotowire.com Today, 7:55 am

    • Picks up third win
Beeks (3-3) threw a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one hit and striking out one to earn the win Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Beeks entered the game with the score knotted at 6-6. He delivered his sixth consecutive scoreless appearance, and in that span he has three holds and a win. Given the Rockies' struggles to find a reliable closer this season, Beeks may get a second look in the role. Rotowire.com Today, 7:47 am

    • Activation possible this weekend
Abreu (ankle) could be activated from the 10-day injured list during this weekend's series against the Reds, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Abreu played the second game of a rehab assignment for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, starting in right field, and signaled his readiness for an activation by launching two solo home runs. He's expected to serve as Worcester's DH on Thursday and should rejoin the Red Sox on Friday or Saturday. Rotowire.com Today, 5:11 am
