• Available to pitch Monday
Astros manager Joe Espada said that Pressly (finger) will be available out of the bullpen Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Pressly has been off limits for a few days while dealing with soreness in a finger on his right hand, but it would seem he's fully recovered now. The veteran reliever has struggled this season, collecting a 5.51 ERA and 1.78 WHIP through 16.1 innings. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago
  • Brewers designate Thyago Vieira for assignment
Brewers designated RHP Thyago Vieira for assignment.

Advice: Vieira loses his spot after posting a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings out of the pen. He still has the live arm capable of delivering 95-99 mph fastballs, but all it’s gotten him is a 6.18 ERA since he debuted with the Mariners in 2017. Even so, there’s a decent chance that someone will claim him, since he’s making the minimum and can eat innings out of the pen. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago
  • Might be back this weekend
Middleton (forearm) will be evaluated for potential activation from the injured list following back-to-back rehab appearances with Double-A Springfield on Wednesday and Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Middleton hasn't allowed a hit or a run in two scoreless rehab innings so far, although he's also walked three and has not recorded a strikeout. He's been out all season with a right forearm strain. Rotowire.com Today, 2:43 pm
  • Royals activate Jake Brentz, send him to Double-A
Royals activated LHP Jake Brentz from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Advice: Brentz returned from Tommy John surgery at the end of last year, only to go down with a hamstring injury this spring that cost him six weeks. He had been struggling mightily on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha, giving up nine runs and walking 17 in six innings, so he’ll head to Double-A for now. The 29-year-old looked like a promising lefty reliever in 2021, but at this point, he might be the next player bumped from the 40-man if the Royals need to add someone. Rotoworld Today, 2:39 pm
  • Continuing mound work
Gallegos (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: It will be his third since going on the injured list two weeks ago with a right shoulder impingement. Gallegos could continue with his mound work after that or perhaps will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. It sounds like he might be ready to rejoin the Cardinals' bullpen in late May or early June. Rotowire.com Today, 2:39 pm
  • Option for Saturday's start
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Thompson is a candidate to start Saturday versus the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: It sounds like the decision will come down to either Thompson or Andre Pallante, although the team doesn't appear close to making that call. Thompson was sent down last month after posting a 9.53 ERA over five appearances (two starts). He's managed to put up a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 frames with Triple-A Memphis, although that's come with a 14:13 K:BB. Rotowire.com Today, 2:36 pm
  • Yankees designate Colby White for assignment
Yankees designated RHP Colby White for assignment.

Advice: The move makes room for Clayton Andrews on the 40-man roster. White had just been claimed from the Rays on May 9. He made two appearances for Double-A Somerset, giving up two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Rotoworld Today, 2:34 pm
  • Candidate to start Saturday
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Pallante is a candidate to start Saturday against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: The Cards are moving Matthew Liberatore back to the bullpen after trying him for a few starts, so they have an opening with Steven Matz (back) still on the mend. Pallante hasn't started a game in the majors since 2022 but has been getting stretched back out at Triple-A Memphis. His results have been mixed, as he's managed a 2.20 ERA but also an ugly 9:13 K:BB over 16.1 frames. Zack Thompson is the other main candidate to draw Saturday's start. Rotowire.com Today, 2:33 pm
  • Not expected to start this weekend
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Liberatore is unlikely to start Saturday versus the Cubs, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Cards have gone back-and-forth on the best role for Liberatore and they now have settled on the bullpen, where he had some success early on in the season. Andre Pallante and Zack Thompson are considered the leading candidates to start Saturday. Rotowire.com Today, 2:28 pm
