    Advice: Vieira loses his spot after posting a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings out of the pen. He still has the live arm capable of delivering 95-99 mph fastballs, but all it’s gotten him is a 6.18 ERA since he debuted with the Mariners in 2017.     Royals activated LHP Jake Brentz from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

    Advice: Brentz returned from Tommy John surgery at the end of last year, only to go down with a hamstring injury this spring that cost him six weeks. He had been struggling mightily on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha, giving up nine runs and walking 17 in six innings, so he’ll head to Double-A for now.     Advice: It will be his third since going on the injured list two weeks ago with a right shoulder impingement.     Advice: It sounds like the decision will come down to either Thompson or Andre Pallante, although the team doesn't appear close to making that call. Thompson was sent down last month after posting a 9.53 ERA over five appearances (two starts).     Advice: The Cards are moving Matthew Liberatore back to the bullpen after trying him for a few starts, so they have an opening with Steven Matz (back) still on the mend. Pallante hasn't started a game in the majors since 2022 but has been getting stretched back out at Triple-A Memphis.
