  • Bryce Miller allows three home runs in loss
    Bryce Miller allowed five earned runs on five hits, including three homers, across six innings in a loss to the Yankees on Wednesday. He struck out four and walked none.

    Advice: Aaron Judge and Juan Soto jumped all over Miller in this one accounting for all of his earned runs with three combined homers. Miller was visibly frustrated as the pitches they hit out weren’t even bad: Soto took two sinkers on the edge to left field and Judge golfed a low and away slider into the short porch. This was the type of game you have to tip your cap and move on from. Miller will take a 3.53 ERA into his next start on Monday at home against the Astros. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:11 pm
     
  • Blake Snell gives up four runs in loss to Pirates
    Blake Snell had mixed results in his return from the injured list on Wednesday, giving up four runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Pirates.

    Advice: On the plus side for fantasy managers, Snell piled up five strikeouts on the evening, but he also issued four free passes. He kept the Pirates’ offense off the board through the first three frames but ran into serious trouble in the fourth. There, he loaded the bases on a pair of walks and an infield single, then plunked Andrew McCutchen to force in a run. He then turned the ball over to the bullpen — who immediately gave up a grand slam to allow all three inherited runners to score. Snell got an impressive 15 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the night — nine on his heater — while posting a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll look to improve upon a cringe-inducing 11.40 ERA and 2.07 WHIP when he does battle against the Phillies on Monday in San Francisco. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:06 pm
     
  • Justin Steele surrenders five runs to Braves in loss
    Justin Steele allowed five runs with five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Braves on Wednesday.

    Advice: Steele had retired the first six batters before Michael Harris II led off the third inning with a base hit. Adam Duvall followed with a two-run homer to put the Braves on the board. Steele pitched into the seventh, leaving at 93 pitches with a run in, two runners on, and one out. Both inherited runners would come in to score. He struck out five on the day. The 28-year-old left-hander will take a 5.68 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 23/6 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings into a start against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:05 pm
     
  • Jesús Luzardo fires eight innings, earns win
    Jesús Luzardo pitched eight strong innings allowing just three hits and no earned runs in a 1-0 win over the Brewers on Wednesday. He struck out four and walked none.

    Advice: For the second straight start, Luzardo was tremendous despite falling fastball velocity. His fastball averaged 94.1 MPH on Wednesday, down nearly two ticks off this year’s average and three from last season. Still, his fastball, changeup, and slider each induced six whiffs while the changeup was especially tough on right-handed batters.   • Freddy Peralta handed tough-luck loss
    Freddy Peralta fired seven one-run innings on Wednesday striking out seven and walking one in a loss to the Marlins.

    Advice: Peralta’s only mistake was a 3-1 fastball to Jazz Chisholm in the first inning that wound up in the seats. Even in that at-bat Peralta missed some borderline pitches to fall behind. Still, he was fantastic Wednesday after scuffling to a 6.19 ERA May. He likely has better times ahead while his strikeout rate stays high and walk rate stays manageable.   • Activated for Wednesday start
    The Giants activated Snell (adductor) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

    Advice: Snell will rejoin the rotation Wednesday after completing his recovery from a Grade 2 adductor strain. The left-hander posted an 11.57 ERA in his first three starts with the Giants this season but looked sharp during two rehab outings, not allowing a hit or a run while collecting a 17:1 K:BB in nine innings. He threw just 60 pitches in his most recent rehab outing Friday, so Snell's workload could be relatively limited Wednesday. According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Snell could go on paternity leave after Wednesday's outing, but in such a scenario, he should be back in time to make his next start.   • White Sox call up Nastrini to start Wednesday
    White Sox recalled RHP Nick Nastrini from Triple-A Charlotte.

    Advice: Nastrini will start tonight against the Royals. He lost his first two starts for the White Sox last month, giving up seven earned runs and seven walks in eight innings.   • Recalled for start
    The White Sox recalled Nastrini from Triple-A Charlotte prior to his start Wednesday in Toronto.

    Advice: Nastrini could get an opportunity to make multiple starts for the White Sox after the club opened up a spot in the rotation for him by recently designating Brad Keller for assignment. The young right-hander had one solid start and one poor one last month with Chicago, ultimately allowing eight runs (seven earned) over eight innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:42 pm
