  • Steals two bases, scores four runs
    Young went 2-for-4 with an RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases in Saturday's 11-4 win over the Marlins.

    Advice: He had just two singles but managed to reach base in all five plate appearances, getting on via a hit-by-pitch, a fielder's choice and an error. It was the second multi-steal game this season for Young, who swiped three bags against the Giants back on April 9. Young is now a perfect 21-for-21 on stolen base attempts in 52 major-league games. The 24-year-old should continue to run wild as long as he's in the lineup, and his terrific defense in center field helps him in that regard.   • Swats grand slam Saturday
    Winker went 2-for-5 with a grand slam in Saturday's 11-4 victory over the Marlins.

    Advice: After walking CJ Abrams to load the bases in the top of the fifth inning, Edward Cabrera hung a curveball to Winker, who deposited it over the right-field wall to break the game open.     Matt Vierling blasted a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning on Saturday, powering the Tigers to a 6-5 victory over the Royals.

    Advice: The Tigers entered the seventh inning trailing 3-1, but drew even on RBI singles by Mark Canha and Kerry Carpenter. Vierling then followed by crushing a 377-foot (110.7 mph EV) laser off of Chris Stratton that scraped the wall in left field and gave the Tigers a 6-3 lead.     Zach McKinstry went 1-for-2 with an RBI triple as the Tigers topped the Royals in Saturday night in Detroit.

  • Jason Foley escapes ninth inning with eighth save
    Jason Foley walked the tightrope in the ninth inning against the Royals on Saturday, escaping with a one-run lead intact to earn his eighth save of the season.

    Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander came on with a three-run advantage, but the Royals nudged closer as they put three hits together to score a pair of runs and put the tying run on base. He rallied back though to get Vinnie Pasquantino on a fly ball to center to end the ballgame. On the season, Foley now holds a 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 11/6 K/BB ratio across 12 innings on the season to go along with eight saves and two victories. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago
     
  • Casey Mize pitches decently in no-decision
    Casey Mize pitched decently in a no-decision against the Royals on Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings of work.

    Advice: The 26-year-old right-hander struck out a pair of batters on the night and didn’t issue a base on balls. The Royals scratched out two run in the opening inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Vinnie Pasquantino and a run-scoring single by Salvador Perez. They tacked on an unearned run in the second inning — and should have had more after some sloppy defense in the fourth inning, but Mize was able to pitch around any further damage. He generated seven whiffs on 87 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll carry a solid 3.08 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and an 18/6 K/BB ratio (26 1/3 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Yankees in New York. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago

  • Maikel Garcia plates two, steals base in loss
    Maikel Garcia went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base as the Royals fell to the Tigers on Saturday evening in Motown.

    Advice: Garcia led off the game with a single off of Casey Mize and came around to score the game’s first run on an RBI ground ball off the bat of Vinnie Pasquantino. He then drove in a run with an RBI single in the second inning and swiped second base before being stranded there. The 24-year-old third baseman also plated a run with a ground ball in the ninth inning.     Cabrera (1-1) took the loss Saturday versus the Nationals, yielding six runs (five earned) on four hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out four.

    Advice: Cabrera cruised through the first two frames, striking out three while allowing just one runner to reach base. It was a struggle after that, though, with the big blow coming in the fifth inning when Jesse Winker walloped a grand slam.     Brady Singer was terrific in a tough-luck no-decision against the Tigers on Saturday night, racking up six strikeouts over five innings of one-run baseball.

    Advice: The 27-year-old hurler scattered four hits and three walks on the night. The lone tally against him came on an RBI triple off the bat of Zach McKinstry in the second inning. Singer generated eight swings and misses on 93 pitches on the night — six on his slider — while registering a CSW of 34 percent.
