• Dylan Cease strikes out 10, allows four runs vs. MIL
Dylan Cease allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision with 10 strikeouts against the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Cease needed 106 pitches to get the 14 outs, so he wasn’t able to get the final out needed to qualify for a win. The right-hander did at least help with the punchouts, and he’s now struck out 116 in his 91 1/3 innings in his first year with the Padres. Cease has scuffled in June, and will try and be more efficient — while still missing bats — against the Nationals on Wednesday. Rotoworld Friday, 10:00 pm

  • Lackluster start in Colorado
Herz allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3.2 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out five during a win over the Rockies.

Advice: All four runs against Herz came on three homers as he stumbled in his first career appearance at Coors Field. Entering Friday's start, he'd given up only one long ball through 14.1 innings to begin his MLB tenure. Herz fired a 13-strikeout quality start against Miami on June 15 but has totaled just 12 innings in his other three outings. He's sporting a 4.50 ERA with a strong 26:5 K:BB through 18 innings. Herz is in line for a start in San Diego next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:47 pm

  • DJ Herz gives up three homers in start vs. Rockies
DJ Herz didn’t factor into the decision after allowing four runs — three earned — in 3 2/3 innings against the Rockies.

Advice: Herz was able to strike out five in the start, which is good. He also gave up seven hits with three of them homers, which is not. The left-hander was dominant against the Marlins with 13 punchouts Saturday, but while the swing-and-miss ability was still apparent, the lack of ideal command was as well. He’s a very risky starter against the Padres next week. Rotoworld Friday, 8:41 pm

  • Fans seven in win
Carrasco (3-6) allowed a run on four hits over six innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: The veteran righty kept Toronto off the board until he coughed up a solo homer to Vladimir Guerrero in the fourth inning. Carrasco entered Friday's game in a rough stretch, going 0-4 with a 5.96 ERA over his previous five starts since his last win May 5. He lowered his season ERA to 5.40 with a 51:21 K:BB after punching out a season-high seven batters Friday. With Gavin Williams (elbow) expected to return soon, Carrasco's role moving forward is unclear. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:31 pm

  • Carlos Carrasco cruises through six innings for win
Carlos Carrasco allowed just one run across six innings on Friday in a 7-1 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out seven without walking a batter.

Advice: No, you did not fall into a wormhole and transport yourself back to 2017 despite Carrasco’s line making it feel that way. He was flat out good in this one. His fastball ticked up to 93 MPH and his slider forced seven whiffs on 13 swings as he mixed all five of his pitches against this pitiful Blue Jays lineup. Tip the cap to the veteran Carrasco for a great start. Rotoworld Friday, 6:51 pm

  • Hangs on for 25th save
Helsley picked up the save over the Giants on Thursday, allowing one hit and one walk over one inning while striking out two.

Advice: Helsley took over in the ninth to protect a one-run lead and proceeded to walk the leadoff man while also coughing up a single three batters later. However, the right-hander rebounded nicely, striking out Matt Chapman to stop the late rally and earn his league-leading 25th save of the season. Helsley has converted each of his last four save opportunities, though he's also issued at least one walk in three consecutive outings. Rotowire.com Friday, 5:11 am

  • Ryan Helsley secures MLB-leading 25th save
Ryan Helsley fired a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Giants to record his major league-leading 25th save of the season.

Advice: Helsley was summoned to protect a narrow one-run lead at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama and made things interesting by issuing a leadoff walk to Trenton Brooks and surrendering a two-out single to Patrick Bailey, which put the potential tying run in scoring position. He managed to wriggle out of the jam by striking out Matt Chapman to extinguish the threat. The hard-throwing 29-year-old righty has converted 25 of 26 save chances this season to go along with a sparkling 2.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 38/13 K/BB ratio across 33 innings (33 appearances). Simply put, he’s been one of the best closers in baseball this year. Rotoworld Thursday, 8:00 pm

  • Fans six in quality start
Woods Richardson did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings against the Rays. He struck out six.

Advice: Woods Richardson allowed single runs in the second and third frames, keeping the Rays at bay as he completed six innings for his fourth quality start of the season. It was the third time in four outings the right-hander struck out exactly six batters, including a couple of big strikeouts to end the fourth and fifth innings, each coming with runners in scoring position to keep the game tied. Woods Richardson has been solid throughout his first extended run in the majors, tallying a 3.26 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 12 starts with 52 strikeouts over 60.2 innings. A matchup with the Diamondbacks likely awaits next week. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:54 pm
  • Lit up for seven runs
Gil (9-2) was hit with the loss against the Orioles on Thursday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings.

Advice: Gil struggled out of the gate, surrendering a leadoff double to open the contest before eventually allowing one run in the first. However, things would get much worse for the right-hander in the following frame, as he failed to retire nine of the next 10 batters he faced, leading to his shortest outing of the campaign. Gil gave up a season-high seven runs on the afternoon and failed to make it through six innings for the third consecutive start. It also marked his first loss since April 15 against Toronto.
