    • Slated for two-inning sim game
Kershaw (shoulder) is expected to pitch a two-inning simulated game Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Advice: Kershaw tossed one inning against live batters Saturday and appears to have come out of that session well given that he will next progress to throwing two simulated frames. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that the future Hall of Fame hurler is "way ahead of schedule" but also implied that Kershaw is likely still "about six weeks" away from being ready to join the big club, per Matthew Moreno of Dodger Blue. Kershaw himself has declined to establish a timeframe for his return, though mid-July is looking like a reasonable expectation. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

    • Excellent in Triple-A start
Scott gave up one run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven in five innings Wednesday for Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: The Mets are keeping Scott on turn while he's waiting at Triple-A to rejoin the big-league rotation. While the Mets have five starters in the rotation currently, Scott figures to re-enter the mix as early as next week. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
    • Sent outright to Triple-A
The Dodgers outrighted Hernandez to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday after he cleared waivers, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Advice: Hernandez was removed from the Dodgers' 30-man roster last week after he allowed nine earned runs across 9.2 innings of work. The 29-year-old remains in the organization, however, and is likely to re-enter Oklahoma City's rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 10:15 am
    • Kyle Bradish won’t make scheduled start on Friday
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that the entire rotation for the upcoming series against the Rays is “TBD,” meaning Kyle Bradish will have his start pushed back.

Advice: Hyde was quick to say that “there are no health concerns for Kyle Bradish,” but the decision was “just about giving him extra rest.” The right-hander was hit hard in his last start against the Rays last week but has a strong 3.18 ERA in 28 1/3 innings since coming back from an elbow injury. There is no word yet on when Bradish will pitch, but if the Orioles decide to have him skip the entire series then he would face the Braves next week. Rotoworld Today, 10:13 am
    • Sent down to Triple-A
The Reds optioned Ashcraft to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Advice: Ashcraft got off to a decent enough start this season, but things unraveled for him over the last month, as he posted a 6.83 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB over 27.2 frames covering his last six starts. It's not yet clear how the Reds plan to fill his spot in the rotation, but shifting the versatile Nick Martinez back to a starting role is an option. Brandon Williamson (shoulder) remains on the 60-day injured list but is another candidate to fill the void, as he made the fourth start of his rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Louisville, tossing four scoreless innings. • Getting break from rehab stint
Cavalli (elbow) hasn't pitched since May 30, but the Nationals are simply giving him some rest before the final push in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. "Just giving himself a little break, a little breather," manager Dave Martinez said Wednesday. "He's been pushing himself pretty hard. We're still ahead of the game a little bit. We just want to ease up a little bit."

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander underwent the procedure in March 2023, and the organization is making sure he'll be fully recovered when he finally comes off IL. Cavalli has struck out 10 batters in 5.1 innings over his first two rehab appearances, one in the Florida Complex League and one with High-A Wilmington, but the Nats have yet to set a date for his next start. He's expected to join the big-league rotation before the end of the month. Rotowire.com Today, 9:06 am

    • No health concerns, but start TBD
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Thursday that the decision to push Bradish's next start back isn't related to health concerns, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Cade Povich was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start Thursday versus the Blue Jays in what would have been Bradish's turn, but the move was designed simply to give Bradish extra rest. Hyde wasn't ready to commit to when Bradish would make his next start, however, as the Orioles haven't confirmed any of their four starters for their upcoming series with the Rays that begins Friday. Bradish could take the ball one of those days, but having his turn skipped entirely is also a possibility. The right-hander has been excellent overall since coming off the injured list in early May, but he stumbled his last time out, allowing five runs over just 2.2 innings in a no-decision against the Rays last Saturday. • Louie Varland working on change-up in Triple-A
According to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic, the Twins have asked Louie Varland to focus on developing his change-up while at Triple-A.

Advice: Gleeman notes that the Twins wanted Varland to increase his changeup usage, and” he’s thrown it nearly three times as often for the Saints,” up to 23 percent overall. The pitch has been “encouraging” to the organization, and they’ve also been “working with Varland to tweak his cutter in search of more movement.” Varland has a 4.30 ERA and 39-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 37 2/3 innings since being demoted, but Gleeman notes that much of the damage against Varland has been on the pitches he’s currently working to develop, which is understandable since pitch mix changes don’t often happen quickly. While these modifications may not have a major impact for Varland’s fantasy value this season, they’re certainly positive developments. Rotoworld Today, 7:57 am

    • Orioles officially promote Cade Povich
Orioles recalled LHP Cade Povich from Triple-A Norfolk

Advice: The news of Povich’s promotion broke yesterday, and now it’s official. The left-hander is the 9th-ranked prospect in Baltimore’s system according to MLB Pipeline and their 2nd-ranked pitching prospect. He had a 3.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 75/21 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings in his 11 starts in Triple-A this year. He’ll make his MLB debut against the Blue Jays on Thursday and has a chance to stick in the rotation with John Means out for the season and Dean Kremer working back from an arm injury. The team optioned Nick Vespi to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Today, 7:27 am
