    • Steele tosses six scoreless in no-decision
Justin Steele threw six shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: Steele gave up three hits, walked one and struck out five. He was in line for his first win of the season before the bullpen blew the lead. Steele lowered his ERA to 3.22 with the effort. After missing all of April due to injury, he’s now completed at least five innings and had at least five strikeouts in six consecutive starts. Steele finished fifth in the National League Cy Young award voting last year and appears to have regained that form this year. The 28-year-old left-hander is set to face the Giants at home next week.

    • Bradley strikes out 11 in second win Thursday
Taj Bradley allowed two runs (none earned) in seven innings and got the win in the Rays’ 3-2 victory over the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: Bradley gave up three hits, walked two and struck out 11. The win was his second in seven starts this season. This was easily Bradley’s best start of the season. His previous season-high for strikeouts is 10, but he also allowed five runs in that start. While Bradley’s ERA is 4.23 this year, his xFIP is significantly lower at 3.10. There should be more starts like this in his future. The 23-year-old right-hander is set to face the Twins on the road next week.

    • Pirates outright Ben Heller to Triple-A
Pirates sent RHP Ben Heller outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Heller passed through waivers unclaimed and will presumably stick around with Pittsburgh as emergency organizational relief depth. The 32-year-old righty has been torched for a staggering 12 runs (11 earned) over two innings of work in a pair of relief outings this season for the Pirates. Rotoworld Today, 4:39 pm

    • Rehab picking up
Borucki (wrist) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The session marked Borucki's first time throwing off a slope since hitting the injured list. He has additional bullpens set for Saturday and Tuesday, after which he may be ready to begin a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Today, 4:38 pm

    • Tosses bullpen session
Gonzales (forearm) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Wednesday's session marked Gonzales' first time throwing off a slope since hitting the injured list. He's expected to continue to ramp up with side sessions before heading out on what will presumably be a lengthy rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Today, 4:19 pm

    • Goes six innings in no-decision
Keller allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts, over six innings in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Keller's four earned runs allowed tied for a season-high, but he still managed to extend a streak of seven straight starts of at least six innings. He gave up a homers to Paul Goldschmidt and Brendan Donovan, making it the first time this season he allows multiple long balls in a game. The 28-year-old remains one of the better starting pitchers this season with eight wins and a 3.36 ERA. Rotowire.com Today, 3:15 pm

    • Pitching final sim game
Kershaw (shoulder) will throw a three-inning simulated game Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Kershaw most recently tossed a two-inning simulated game with the Dodgers' Single-A affiliate in Rancho Cucamonga on June 7, with reports suggesting that his fastball touched 90 miles per hour in the outing. He'll increase his workload in Thursday's simulated game, which will be his last before he begins what will likely be a multi-start minor-league rehab assignment, according to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. • Allows one run in quality start
Mize did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over six innings against the Tigers. He struck out four.

Advice: Mize's only run allowed came on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, otherwise stymying the Nationals through six. It was the fifth quality start this season for Mize, and his first since May 15. Over his four starts since, he had compiled an 8.22 ERA and 2.48 ERA over 15.1 innings entering Thursday's contest. His next start is currently slated to take place next week when the Tigers travel to Atlanta for a three-game set. Rotowire.com Today, 3:02 pm

    • Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) throws another sim game
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw a three-inning simulated game on Thursday at Dodgers Stadium.

Advice: Kershaw, who is in the final stages of his rehabilitation from offseason shoulder surgery, appears poised to embark on a minor league rehab assignment at some point next week and could be ready to jump back into the Dodgers’ starting rotation following next month’s All-Star break.
