    • Late scratch Friday
Donovan, who was set to start in left field and bat in the leadoff spot Friday against the Phillies, was scratched from the Cardinals' lineup due to neck stiffness, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Dylan Carlson will enter the lineup and start in right field, while Alec Burleson shifts to left field and Matt Carpenter moves up to the leadoff spot, per John Denton of MLB.com. Rotowire.com Today, 2:57 pm

    • Brendan Donovan scratched Friday with stiff neck
Brendan Donovan was scratched from the Cardinals’ starting lineup on Friday due to neck stiffness.

Advice: The 27-year-old infielder is considered day-to-day for the time being. Dylan Carlson will take his place in the Cardinals’ lineup and will bat eighth against Aaron Nola and the Phillies while Matt Carpenter slides up to the leadoff spot in the team’s batting order. • Two hits, homer vs. Brewers
Bellinger went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Milwaukee.

Advice: Bellinger opened the scoring with a two-out solo shot off Colin Rea, giving the Cubs a 1-0 lead in the first inning with his eighth homer of the year and his first in 18 games. While he hadn't been hitting for much power, Bellinger's been seeing the ball well recently -- he has hits in six straight games, going 11-for-27 (.407) in that span, including five consecutive two-hit efforts. The 28-year-old outfielder is now slashing .267/.332/.471 with 26 RBI and 19 runs scored through 190 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:34 pm

    • Starting to heat up
Donovan went 3-for-4 with a double and a hit-by-pitch in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: This was Donovan's third multi-hit effort in the last five games. He's now gone 17-for-49 (.347) over his last 13 contests, though he has zero home runs and six doubles in that span. The 27-year-old is up to a .245/.326/.382 slash line with four homers, 25 RBI, 26 runs scored, 14 doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 233 plate appearances this season. Donovan's lack of steals and mediocre sprint speed -- in the 42nd percentile, per Statcast -- makes him an odd fit for the leadoff role, but that's where he's hit for most of the campaign. Masyn Winn has also seen time at leadoff versus left-handed pitchers recently, but Donovan remains atop the order versus righties. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:28 pm

    • Steals first base of 2024
Bellinger went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Brewers. He also stole a base.

Advice: The stolen base was notable because it's the first of the season for Bellinger, though he did miss some time with a fractured ribcage, which could have cut into his running. He had a career-high 20 steals last year as he reached the 20-20 plateau for the first time in seven MLB campaigns. Bellinger hasn't been quite as effective so far in 2024, though he's batting a solid .262 with a .774 OPS, and the 28-year-old has the talent to start racking up the counting stats in a hurry. • Accounts for lone run in loss
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Reds.

Advice: Goldschmidt has homered three times over his last two games, though it's still too early to say he's completely out of the woods for his slow start to the campaign. He's shown some encouraging signs, hitting safely in all but one of his last 14 games while going 18-for-61 (.295) in that span. The first baseman is up to seven homers, 22 RBI, 26 runs scored and three stolen bases with a .222/.297/.359 slash line over 50 contests this season. Despite his recent success, he's striking out at a 31.5 percent clip and has struck out 32 times over 21 games in May. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:27 pm

    • Paul Goldschmidt hits third homer in two days
Paul Goldschmidt hit his third homer in two days to give the Cardinals their only run Monday against the Reds.

Advice: Goldschmidt didn’t crush this one; technically, it wasn’t even a hard-hit ball at 94.3 mph. He hit it to the right spot, though. This little outburst has led to calls that Goldschmidt is back, but we want to see the K rate drop some before we buy into that. His 31% strikeout rate this year is a huge increase over his career mark of 22%. Rotoworld Monday, 6:00 pm

    • Bellinger has two-hit game Monday
Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 against the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: It was a quiet day for the Cubs offense as they could only muster one run. Bellinger, however, has been hot at the plate since a slow start early this season. He’s 31-for-104 (.298) since April 13th.

    • Powers team with two homers
Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run home runs in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Goldschmidt opened up the scoring with a 424-foot two-run shot off Javier Assad in the third. He then followed up with another two-run blast in the fifth to put the Cardinals up 4-0, which was enough for them to hold onto the win. In 12 games since May 12, the 36-year-old is slashing .308/.357/.596 with four home runs, 10 RBI and nine runs scored. Sunday also marked his first multi-homer game since May 23, 2023. Despite his strong form of late, Goldschmidt is still underdelivering for fantasy managers on the whole this season, slashing .222/.298/.345 with six home runs, 21 RBI, 25 runs and three stolen bases across 215 plate appearances.
