    • Steals bag in second straight game
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two strikeouts in Thursday's 3-2 over the Pirates.

Advice: Goldschmidt had two hits and a steal in Wednesday's contest, and with another swipe Thursday, it became the 13th time in his career he's recorded stolen bases in back-to-back games. The 2022 NL MVP got off to a rough start this season with two home runs and .530 OPS through 37 games, but he's turned it around nicely since the middle of May. He's now slashing .261/.312/.452 with nine homers, 22 RBI and five steals over his last 46 games. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago
    • Josh Hader works around hit to pick up save
Josh Hader allowed a hit but no runs while picking up a save Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Hader gave up the hit, but worked around it while picking up his 14th save for the surging Astros. The left-hander needed just nine pitches to get through the inning, and six of those went for strikes. There’s every reason to believe Hader will be one of the best closers in baseball during the second half of the 2024 campaign. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

    • Swipes two bags in win
Thomas went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases in Thursday's win against the Mets.

Advice: Thomas had his fifth game of the season with multiple stolen bases, which is the second most in MLB behind Elly De La Cruz (eight). Thomas already has 19 steals in 58 games this season, one away from the career high he set last season in 156 contests. The 28-year-old continues to be a solid producer since returning from a knee injury in late May, slashing .268/.327/.504 with six homers and 25 RBI over his last 36 games. • Nabs fifth steal
Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Goldschmidt's midseason resurgence has continued into July -- he's opened the month with a pair of multi-hit efforts. He's batting .262 with six extra-base hits and two steals over his last 15 contests. The first baseman is at a .230/.297/.368 slash line with 11 home runs, five steals, 12 doubles, 33 RBI and 40 runs scored through 82 games overall, though his recent play is an encouraging sign for the second half. • Return before break not ruled out
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Realmuto (knee) is working out at 70-to-75 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Realmuto is three weeks removed from right meniscus surgery and is progressing nicely. The club is not ruling out a return for their starting catcher prior to the All-Star break if he proves to be ready by then, but it's probably more likely that Realmuto is held out until the start of the second half. • Clubs fourth homer
Moreno went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Moreno doubled in his first at-bat before adding a two-run shot in the third to tie the game at 4-4. The catcher went on to reach three times in the contest and has now hit safely in each of his first two games since returning from the injured list (thumb). It marked Moreno's third three-hit performance of the campaign and he's now homered in two of his last three games (dating back to June 21). Rotowire.com Today, 7:56 am
    • Taking seat against southpaw
Gorman is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Pittsburgh.

Advice: Left-hander Martin Perez is drawing the start on the mound for the Pirates, so the lefty-hitting Gorman will begin this one on the bench. Jose Fermin will occupy second base for the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Today, 6:58 am

    • Quality start in no-decision
Mikolas came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Pirates, giving up two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Advice: It was a vintage performance from the right-hander and a strong rebound from a 10-run disaster against the Reds his last time out. Mikolas delivered his 10th quality start of the season on an efficient 87 pitches (61 strikes) but left the mound on the hook for his eighth loss, until the Cards tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning. Even with last week's implosion, he sports a respectable 4.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 40:11 K:BB through 58.2 innings over his last 10 starts. Mikolas will look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Nationals. Rotowire.com Today, 5:51 am
    • Just misses quality start
Kikuchi allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Wednesday.

Advice: Kikuchi gave up just one run through five frames before serving up a solo shot to Yordan Alvarez in the sixth. The southpaw got two more outs in the inning but was pulled one out shy of a quality start following a Jeremy Pena double. Despite that disappointment, this was a positive outing for Kikuchi after he had given up 13 runs across 11 frames over his final three starts of June. The hurler has fallen off after a strong start to the campaign -- across his past eight appearances, he has just one quality start while registering a 6.50 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 37:10 K:BB across 36 innings.
