    • Joe Ross strikes out six in win over Pirates
Joe Ross allowed two earned runs and two hits over five innings while picking up the win on Tuesday against the Pirates.

Advice: Ross was solid in this one, allowing just two hits while walking just one batter. His six strikeouts marked the third time on the year in which he struck out five or more batters, as the veteran righty was in control for much of the afternoon. He did give up a two-run homer to Nick Gonzales in the fourth inning, but bounced back to retire the next four batters he faced before being pulled. Ross picked up his second win of the season in this one, and will look to notch his third in his next start which is scheduled for Monday against the Marlins. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:15 pm

    • Blake Snell to make rehab start Friday at Triple-A
Blake Snell (adductor) will make another minor league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Snell will require one additional tune-up prior to returning to San Francisco’s starting rotation at some point later next week. The 31-year-old southpaw has been on the shelf since late April due to a left adductor strain. He struck out seven batters last Sunday in a dominant rehab outing for Single-A San Jose. • Next rehab start Friday
Snell (thigh) will make another rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Snell fired four perfect innings while striking out seven batters during his first rehab outing at Single-A San Jose, though he'll be facing some tougher competition during his next start. Assuming everything goes smoothly, Friday is expected to be the 31-year-old's final game in the minors, putting him in line to return from the IL and start May 23 against the Pirates. • Completes bullpen session
Dunning (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: Dunning is progressing well after straining his rotator cuff, having tossed his first bullpen session since being placed on the 15-day injured list on May 8. His IL designation was retroactive to May 5, meaning he could be eligible for reinstatement as soon as Monday. However, he'll have to make it through the rest of his rehab without setbacks for an immediate return to be a possibility. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:36 pm

    • Dane Dunning (shoulder) throws bullpen session
Dane Dunning, who was placed on the injured list last week with a rotator cuff strain, threw a bullpen session Tuesday.

Advice: All went well, apparently, and it doesn’t currently look like Dunning’s IL stint will be a lengthy one. Given the state of their rotation, the Rangers could bring him back without a rehab stint if he continues to feel good. Rotoworld Tuesday, 12:36 pm

    • Allows season-high four runs
Crawford (2-2) suffered the loss Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings against the Rays. He struck out six.

Advice: Crawford did not allow a long ball after having allowed one each over his past two starts (none over his first six outings) but did serve up three extra-base hits on his way to allowing four earned runs for the first time this season. A two-out triple in the first inning by Amed Rosario was the biggest blow while a fourth inning double by Jose Caballero set up Tampa's fourth run and ultimately served as the deciding run that sent Crawford to his second defeat. Despite the relatively subpar effort, Crawford maintains a high-quality 2.24 ERA that he'll take into his next start, tentatively slated to take place over the weekend when the Red Sox head to St. Louis for an inter-league matchup against the Cardinals. • Cristopher Sánchez gives up three runs vs. Mets
Cristopher Sánchez allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Mets.

Advice: Sánchez finished with five strikeouts and also issued three walks. It’s fairly impressive that he was able to get into the middle innings of this one after the Mets got to him for three runs over the first two frames. The 27-year-old lefty will bring a serviceable 3.43 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 39/18 K/BB ratio across 42 innings (eight starts) into a home matchup on Saturday against the Nationals. Rotoworld Monday, 8:03 pm
    • Kutter Crawford strikes out six in loss to Rays
Kutter Crawford was charged with four runs over six innings on Monday in a loss to the Rays.

Advice: Crawford struck out six and only issued one walk. He got into trouble right away with two outs in the opening frame when he gave up a two-run triple to Amed Rosario and a run-scoring single to Richie Palacios. A fourth-inning sacrifice fly from Jose Siri was enough to saddle him with a loss in a low-scoring showdown at Fenway Park. He’ll bring a strong 2.24 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 52/16 K/BB ratio across 52 1/3 innings (nine starts) into a road tilt on Saturday against the Cardinals. Rotoworld Monday, 7:15 pm

    • Plays catch Monday
Dunning (shoulder) played catch from 90 feet Monday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Dunning landed on the 15-day injured list last week with a right rotator cuff strain, but he said after Monday's throwing session that his pitching arm is feeling stronger. His stint on the IL isn't expected to be a long one, but he'll need to go through a full throwing progression before being activated. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:43 pm
